If OHIO had taken care of business vs Ball State would OHIO be ranked in the top 25 this week considering the same amount of losses as top 25 Pitt while we beat the team they lost to and you could say our two losses are to better teams than Pitt's two losses.

I don't think so. Pitt changed QBs and is lighting up the scoreboard. Pitt also beat a team (FSU) that was ranked at the time.

Had we beaten both Ball State and Rutgers, yes. Just Ball State, no.

Yeah, if we closed the deal at Rutgers and sit undefeated in the MAC...with Memphis loss I think we would be the non-P4 playoff pick right now.

But...you could play this game of tweaking a couple things in a season and completely transforming their destiny with dozens of teams. Unfortunately it happened. I am still not over the Ball State debacle.

Ohio to win out and have Miami slip up somewhere. Miami has to play 3-2 Toledo, 4-1 Buffalo and 3-2 Ball St.

CMU I don't know is too much of a threat as they are 3-2 and do not have a quality win in addition to play Buffalo, at Kent who is playing well of late and wrapping up with Toledo.

If Miami winning out is 40% chance and Ohio has a 70% chance at this point in time I believe it gives the Bobcats a 42% chance of playing in Detroit. If Miami wins tonight that chance drops to 21% while Miami's chance rises to 70%.

Dumb question but who do we want winning tonight?

I would assume CMU over Buffalo and Toledo over Miami?

*Sorry if this has already been discussed in another thread

We need Toledo to hold on and win over Miami for sure to give Miami 2 losses and we hold the tiebreaker. We actually need Buffalo to win to essentially knock CMU out and since we play Buffalo will hold the tiebreak. This is all assuming we win out which we obviously need to do.

We want WMU to win out so the loss doesn't haunt us in a three way tie break. We need Ball State to lose one as well.

Toledo is so inconsistent. Often, they look like the best team in the conference by a wide margin.

Assuming we win out we want WMU to lose both of their remaining games (extremely unlikely given their schedule). And then yes Ball State to not win out. I believe we hold the tiebreaker over Toledo regardless of what they do (but want them to beat Miami tonight)

Well, yes, we'd want them to lose out more than win out but that is crazy unlikely. Odds are that they win out. What we don't want is for them to lose one. I was hoping Buffalo could win tonight. It is starting to look like they won't. Then we could know for sure to root for CMU over Toledo. ESPN seems to think that it is very likely that Toledo goes by winning out. I am not hopeful. I think we need all sorts of help

Buffalo trails CMU 24-13 and MOFO is down 24-3 vs Toledo, both early in the 4th.

If Ohio and UT both win out: both end up 6-2; Ohio beat BG, UT lost to BG, giving Ohio the tiebreaker. Am I missing something? Some other factor or team to consider?

At least if the RedChickens lose, it will make us Bobcats feel better.

They would have beaten Ball State and we lost to them. It is close to a guarantee that Ball State will be higher in the standings. If we have the same record against common opponents. It sounds like if we have the same overall records against common opponents then the highest ranked common opponent takes precident. That will be Miamu. We both would have won. Next would be BSU.

I am not sure who wins the tiebreaker with CMU. If Toleco beats Ball, and someone probably needs to beat Ball for us, we might need both CMU and Toledo to lose and they play each other.

Ball State is the other factor here. We lost to them and UT winning out means they beat them (play them next week) so then I think it comes down to Ball State vs BG conference winning percentage (3rd tiebreaker option). We get hurt by that. Crazy stuff

CMU is going to win tonight. We need EMU to take care of Ball State Saturday. Then we can hope against hope that Ball beats Toledo the next week.

This is exactly how I see it. I cannot figure out the CMU situation.

So right now it looks like a Toledo/WMU MACC game is most likely, unless a bunch of weird stuff happens. I think Toledo is the best team in the conference right now. They went into Oxford and thumped Fiami tonight. I don't think we would have done that. WMU is sitting on top right now because we shit the bed last night - they're too one dimensional on offense in my opinion.

Ohio controls destiny over Miami & Buffalo so won't mention them.

With Toledo, Ohio has better loss Ball State 3-2 compared to BG 1-5. Ball State and BG didn't play each other so there is no head-2-head. Ball State has EMU, Toledo and Miami left so should finish ahead of BG.

With CMU, Ohio has the better loss Ball State 3-2 compared to 3-4 Akron. Ball State did beat Akron so has the head-2-head. Akron has BG remaining to play so could finish 4-4.

If Ball State defeats EMU on Saturday that would guarantee a 4th win and the tie-breaker over Toledo/CMU. From there Ball State needs to drop the Toledo and/or Miami games.

However if Ball State finishes 3-5 then Ohio might no longer finish with the tie-breaker over CMU and since Toledo didn't play UMass their remaining opponents have a higher record. But if Ball State finishes 6-2 (6% chance) they'll take Ohio's spot in Detroit. Ideal scenario would be if Ball State wins one more and that game is Toledo, handing them a 3rd loss at the same time settling all tie-breakers.
