I'm expecting to be a about a 1 point underdog here.

A couple thoughts I'll share to start:

1) We should have the confidence boost from beating Miami to stay focused and keep the train moving, so to speak, vs. WMU.

2) However, it's also true that we've had issues playing on the road. Even in our only road win at Eastern Michigan, it took us longer than it should to get going.

Any word on where might be a pre-game watering hole for the Tuesday travelers to Kalamazoo?

Definitely need to get a hot start or at least prevent one from WMU. Don't want to play catchup on the road.

It could be a strength on strength game as our offense is 2nd in the MAC as is their defense.

Their offense is 7th in the MAC with our defense at 6th (which is higher than what I thought it would be).

Two of the three final games will be stout tests and UMass needs to be put away early as they gave Buffalo a game.

A win in Kalamazoo, I think, could really be like last year's win up at Toledo in terms of momentum and controlling the destiny of the trip to Detroit.

The weather is supposed to be lousy according to the WMU board. What else would you expect in mid-November in Michigan?

I was wondering at first if this was a Daryl Kyle type situation where he just unexpectedly died in his sleep. No cause of death has been released but it isn't. He was involved in a police chase. The police lost him but the car was later found crashed and he was found nearby with a gunshot wound - possibly self-inflicted.

According to the news, he died of a self inflicted gunshot wound after
fleeing a traffic stop.

Kid was only 24.

What a waste.

So sad! I will pray for him and his family.

[I'll await the autopsy results before speculating more about what may have happened, but I do have hypotheses.]

In offensive production WMU is ranked 119th including 121st in passing. This says Western could struggle if they fall behind in the game as they did against Miami. Ohio is ranked 40th in offensive production, 21st in rushing. The line has Ohio -2.5 for this game favored as usual for its MAC game.

After watching a few games, it really boils down to stopping their QB. He leads the team in rushing yards with 591 and 8 TDs. Their RBs run hard and break tackles for extra yards that should be punts for 4th downs too. So tackling will be critical for this game. Also, their DBs have lapses often on deep crossing routes which causes explosive plays. We need to dominate the run game early, slip in a few passes to make them respect us deep and then pound away again. WR Williams seems to be the Qbs favorite target but he distributes it evenly. In redzone, they are going to run it until they get behind the chains. Can I say it again? Run stop will be important this week.

Run the ball. Stop the run. Win the game. 1-0 and on to UMass.

The MAC, this year, is crazy as ever. Any of 7 teams can still win the MACC. This game is very important, as a WMU win would almost certainly put them in the MACC game. I agree with the above: run the ball, stop the run, win the game.

Worst week to play them as well.

I'm sure they're going to have a tribute to the guy who just died and that extra motivation, at home... cards against us at the moment.

I'm not sure how much motivation there will be.

The guy fled a traffic stop, crashed his car, then killed himself.

Not a situation that creates a lot of sympathy.

It doesn't mean an automatic win for WMU. Gotta play the game.

Weather report I just saw is calling for it to be 31 degrees at kickoff with just a 10% chance of rain. Winds 12 mph with gusts to 25. End of game temperature actually expected higher (34), precipitation still 10% and winds at 9 mph, gusts to 24. Probably about as good as one might expect there. Certainly better than 2019.

So I see on x that WMU is number 3 in the county in percentage of sacks on passing plays without blitzing. Just a reminder that these guys are good defensively.

And according to the same source, their QB is ranked #1 in the MAC, just ahead of our man.
