I know some don't like to look past next week, but Solich is just three wins away from moving into third place in wins among Bobcat football coaches.  With Kent, the MAC championship game and the bowl game still to go, it could be this year.

He's also 3 wins shy of 100 for his career. That would be one hell of a bowl win.

I went to the Media guide to check this, and based on total wins, as of right now it stands:
Don Peden   121-46-11 .711
Bill Hess 108-91-4 .542
Carrol Widdoes 42-36-5 .536
Frank Solich  40-34 .540
Jim Grobe 33-33-1

based on winning Percentage (20 games min)
Don Peden   121-46-11 .711
Art McFarland 13-10-1 .562
Russ Finsterwald 13-10-1 .562
Mark Banks 22-17-2 .561
Bill Hess 108-91-4 .542
Frank Solich  40-34 .540
Carrol Widdoes 42-36-5 .536
Jim Grobe 33-33-1

If Ohio wins 3 more, Solich would go to 43-34 .558, moving him into 3rd in total wins, and 5th in percentage. I expect the 2011 team to be better than this year, so by the end of next year Solich should be 3rd in wins, and 2d in winning percentage.

To be honest, I would say that Ohio now has a solid program and winning tradition, and I expect them to average 8 wins a year going forward, so I think his percentage will continue to rise until he retires. Probably ending around 60%, still far behind Don Peden, but well ahead of anyone else. At that point we will find out if Ohio can continue that success, or if it will all unwind.

Forget about records for a minute and consider that Frank may be the coach who has had the most positive impact on the Ohio football program in its history.  In the top division of the game ( a recent invention), with most of the rules and the budgets stacked against him, and with absolutely zip to work with when he arrived he has resurrected this program.  IMHO he isn't getting enough credit for the job he's done this year - or ever.

For evidence, look again at the frustration visible on Al Golden's face all night Tuesday. He wasn't outmanned or outplayed, he was flat out outcoached.  Look at the final stats, too.  No way we win that game when were "dominated" like the stat sheet says we were.  Frank and his staff gave us that win.

No question Coach & Staff deserve a mountain of credit but let's not use the phrase "dominated" in regards to the Temple game stats.  130 of their yards were prevent D give up yards in the last 5 minutes.  I respect and appreciate this staff just as much if not more than the next guy, but honestly those last 5 minutes where the longest of my life.  As an example, I certainly hope since he was seeing the field for the first time there at the end, someone reinforced with Boykin that Temple had been trying to stand up and strip pretty much all night...

BC36, I'm right there with you concerning the last 4+ minutes of the game.  I've been speculating to myself since Tuesday night that Coach was more than mildly concerned about what transpired; that the team has endured a sermon about the length of a game being 60 minutes, not 55 -- even when you have a three-touchdown lead. Good grief, that lead was evaporating at a Colorado-like rate!

You are also correct, BC36, about the yardage stats being skewed by the "prevent victory" defense.

All of that said, if you avoid one face mask penalty on a sack, the final score winds up being 31-10 (or 38-10).

Well, I wasn't going to go here but since it was brought up.......

Coach Solich and this staff have made OHIO Football something to look forward to. The struggles in the past are just that - in the past. While I have no idea how long he will continue to coach or be at OHIO, he will go down in my memory as a first class man with a staff second to none.

I am finally at a point where basketball is on the back burner until football season is over. Regardless of the opponent, my family and I enjoy the hell out of road trips in the fall to watch OHIO football. Finally!

While many of us knew it, I hear more and more about recruits making the trip to Athens and commenting on how beautiful the place is and that they fell at home. The more exposure we get via wins, the more recruiting options we have.

5 straight over Oxford Tech and (2) over Bill Cosby!! Both in Athens next fall! I'm crazy right now. Let's whip Kant Read and seal this baby up!
