While we knew all along, last night’s game certainly clinches a bowl game for this year’s team.  While some can debate the relevance and intelligence of going to a bowl, it is a sign of accomplishment by the team and university.

In fact, a quick check of the record books show that this is the first time in MAC history that a school has sent their a football team to a bowl game, followed that up with sending their basketball team to the “Dance” (let alone advancing) and followed that up with sending their football team back to a bowl.

Couple this athletic excellence with the continued honors won by the College of Communications and the College of Business (and others) as well as our annual place on the medal stand when it comes to partying and it is no wonder that Ohio University rules and folks at Fiami, Temple, et all, well...they just don't measure up.

I was with you until you put academics and partying in the same (run on) sentence lol.

However, you do bring up a great point; it's a great time to be a Bobcat!

I'll temper the achievement by mentioning that for a ponderous majority of MAC history, there was only one bowl bid to go around, and by that standard, we would not be the MAC representative in last year's bowl.

That being said... we will look back when we are older and grayer and appreciate what's going on right now. Even those of us who may not think it's good enough.

Pete, as one of those "older" and "greyer" grads (1971),  I can confirm this is (after about 35 years) a great time to be a Bobcat football fan!

Now let's finish the year strong!

I'm older and grayer already and I appreciate every bowl, period.  I'd like to see a win while I can still remember who I root for.

Agree 110%. We older fans have watched and routed for years without anything close to the feeling of satisfaction that we have been experiencing the past few years. For me that feeling started when Dion Byrum picked off the pass and returned it for an OT win over Pitt six seasons ago, Frank's first game. It has continued to flourish. Even though I have witnesssed two MAC title losses and two bowl losses I continue to be optimistic. We can do it! Another trip to Mobile, perhaps? I'm ready! It's good to be a BOBCAT!

^^^^^^

That Friday night was the coolest night ever to be a Bobcats fan.......we were standing off to the sde of the band as Byrum picked off the pass and came running towards us.

I still say the stadium has never been more electric then that night

I think the last few minutes of regulation and the OT period should be required viewing for all new freshman.  Should be shown during whatever passes for freshman orientation these days.  Challenge students to recreate that atmosphere.

Minor point, but wasn't that Coach's 2nd game?  Didn't Byrum intercept a pitchout and return it for six the prior week against, and at, Northwestern.  So, the Pitt game gave Dion three defensive td's in two games and the answer to the question "What's Dion Byrum's number?"  Answer:  Pick six.

Frank did a telephone interview last night at half time of the Miami-Akron game.  He was asked the question and I am paraphrasing, What has it taken for you to turn Ohio into the powerhouse you seem to have created?  I got a little chuckle out of that characterization, imagine Ohio being called a powerhouse!!  Not exactly but certainly better than we have been and enjoyed it anyway.  Now that is nice free publicity.  His response went along the lines that it always goes.  He said we have great assistant coaches with long tenured stability in most cases.  Then he always makes sure to say he has great support from the President of the school.

That statement is very true. Athletic success is high on President McDavis' list and he was an important factor in bringing Frank to Ohio.  His support is also a big factor in Frank wanting to continue.  Recall the pictures in the locker room of the Miami win.  The President was in that locker room at an away game.  Nice to have the number one guy be your biggest fan particularly in these challenging economic times when the cost of athletics so often comes under scrutiny.

We are approaching 2011 and I believe Frank's contract runs out after 2012.  I would sure like to start to hear of it getting extended to say 2015, making a nice 10 or 11 year run.  After Frank's run, whenever that ends as another on this board already pointed out the big challenge will be keeping it going!!!

GO BOBCATS!

Good summary 72 of what Frank had to say.

He also said that  those good assistant coaches were also great recruiters.

Read my lips:

It's the recruiting......and the coaching.

Funny--I was poking around for MAC websites yesterday to say how the year's team is now regarded.  I think that it was on the Vandelay website that I saw that our last year's recruting class (this year's true freshmen) was rated 12th best (2nd worst) out of the 13 MAC schools.

Well, those lads haven't played a lot so we'll see.  But our recruiting ability and development ability must be vastly under-appreciated.

EXTEND GOTFRANK AND STAFF NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They just don't ask the correct people.

Some of those so-called "experts" are simply "legends in their own minds".

Yes, they had a rather unimpressive loss at Northwestern the week prior.  I know because I was there and flew with the team after winning a radio promotion contest.

Recruiting class rankings are garbage.  A 2 star athlete offered by Ohio State or Michigan would jump to a 3 or 4 star athlete (I'm sure that's a dead horse by now though)

If we find great athletes that fit our system, I could care less about rank.

Agreed. I think GotFrank and his staff know a little more about players than Vandelay and all these other rating services. GO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!

I get that a guy we offer who's considered, for example, a 2 star jumps to 3 or more stars when BigBCS U. offers.

But my point is that within the MAC, the website rated us second last--even after several years of strong performance on the field showing that either we do bring in solid recruits or we sure do a fine job of coaching 'em up.

I haven't the fine attention to detail that others on here have, but seems to me that we are set to be pretty stacked next year save for questions at defensive line and a bit at qb.  Lookin' good.
