I hope not, I'll be on board a ship on the Pacific Ocean when that game is played.  I'm hoping for a later bowl like the Go Daddy Domain Name Bowl.

Who is Ohio U. and why are they using Ohio's logo?

Seriously-----why are we the only flippin team out of all of these that has a dumb "U" afterwards.  I guess I shouldn't care, but it just gets under my skin.

OK.....let the "why do you care" responses begin.....

I will never trust the BCS to not make the match up TCU v. Boise State.

However, TCU playing Florida State gives an appropriate match up for TCU to win, but the BCS to save face by claiming Florida State is from the weak ACC.

Under this same logic, there's no way Boise State will play Wisconsin. Under the same philosophy as above, Boise State will play Pitt because it enables the SEC, Big 10, Pac 10, and Big 12 to save face.

Ohio playing South Florida? Interesting. Just no more Marshall in a bowl game.

AND...the Humanitarian Bowl for a MAC school is plain dumb and demonstrates more lack of vision from the people who give us $8 bad feeds for football games and call it a "TV deal".

I see CBSsportsline still has us back in Mobile taking on Florida International. Obviously a game against S. Florida would be nice. Warm weather destination against a mid-tier team from the Big East is better than Marshall or Southern Miss. The payout is a little better too I believe.

I dunno, even though a trip to a new and far more prominent bowl (everyone ignores the GMAC) would be exciting I had such an amazing time at the last GMAC I dunno that I would give up a return to Mobile.

Besides the ones mentioned, some interesting potential opponents. Penn State, Notre Dame could both finish 6-6 and wind up in a bowl facing a MAC team. Then again ND could weenie out claiming that 6-6 is not a deserving bowl season.

I don't think they'll "weenie" out this year as Kelly has been quoted as saying ND needs the extra 15 practices.

Maybe it is because I live in Chicago, but I am going to say Northwestern will be our bowl op.

It is way, way too early to determine where Ohio is going to go bowl at. The only thing we can say with confidence is that Ohio is looking bowl bound. Ohio wins the East Division they'll probably end up playing in a MAC sponsored tie-in. Ohio ends up with 7 or 8 wins I see the school shipped out west to fill a tie-in. This is not even worth speculating on until after the Temple game.

I really do not want to go to Boise in December.  The Humanitarian Bowl is an example of why bowl game contstriction is needed.

Chris Low still has us on the Smurf Turf. Schlabach has us in the Compass against Louisville. Low has Tennessee in the Compass bowl. We could beat them.

CBS shows us against Arkansas St. in Mobile. Blah...

That bowl in Birmingham against either the Big East or SEC is the one to get...

Which is more important -- winning the MAC championship and going to Mobile or Detroit, or finishing second (or worse) in the East and going to Boise or some other nondescript bowl game (maybe the best at-large bowl game I've seen predicted is the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl in 'Frisco; but it's played on a baseball field and both benches are on the same side of the field, so players can't hear the coaches if the play is at the far end of the field)?

I would rather have the Cats win the MAC.

And this is exactly why the NCAA hoops tournament rocks.  It's why I follow OHIO hoops with both eyes and football with one eye.  Now don't get me wrong, I love having a football team going to bowls.  Not OHIO's fault and going to bowls still has to be the goal.  But when you do well in hoops you get a first class tournament, first class venues, and a first class opponent most can't wait to see us play.

Your reward for an outstanding football season is this garbage.  Totally hard to get excited for.

I agree.  Except the MAC gets four to five teams in Bowls.  All Nationally televised.  We get One chance at the NCAA out of 13 teams.  That one game is rarely televised in its entirety.  Especially if another Big 10 team is playing at the same time.  Its atypical that a MAC gets a decent seed and even rarer when we actually win a game.  Playing for a conference title and an upset win over a big boy is as good as it gets for the MAC.

Yep.  Although I had fun at the Pizza Bowl last year, the half-full stadium didn't have the same satisfaction as watching the thumping the b-ball team gave the Whoyas on TV -- and not just because we lost to the Terd.  With NCAA tournament games, it's win or go home.  With bowl games, it's go home, win or lose.  There was real excitement around here between the 1st and 2nd round tournament games.  About the best a non-AQ team can hope for from a bowl game is that a few 2- or 3-star recruits you've been after will see the game and choose you over their other offers.

I would agree with your points Dublin Cat.  That certainly is the bad side of MAC hoops in that the regular reason is really all for entertainment purposes as unless you win 28 games or something crazy like that,  the NCAA still may not care if you don't get or stay hot in your conference tournament.  Also as a hoops fan it appears the law of averages is that we make the Dance once every 10 years.  So for a 40 year old you're talking only 3-4 more times to experience last years feeling.  That's a long time in between cups of coffee.

But still going to Mobile in December to play Arkansas State or whatever they're saying are the options is just pure garbage for a reward.

Got to agree with you here George.  Starting with picking up USA today on Monday after the selection show on Sunday night, millions of folks have to make a choice on the MAC entry on their bracket.  Bowl games go up against Miracle on 34th Street or It's a Wonderful Life, which by the way is one of my all time favorites.  A "bowl" game and the NCAA tournament aren't even comparable.

Interesting. Many years ago I thought MAC football was small time but with the athletes, TV time, and ability to go to bigger bowl games the league is not really holding the program back any more. it was a major issue for Ohio football recruiting in the 80's/90's. Times have really changed. I like how the football has an interesting mix of players from CA, FL and places afar while maintaining strong in-state representation and the occassional local player to boot. I don't find programs interesting that have some great natural advantage like Ohio State with several Big Ten caliber players every year in the Columbus suburbs. I have more respect for a program that has to work to succeed like Ohio but attractive enough to have potential on the national stage. The Bobcats are playing Temple next week which is ranked #31 in the Harris poll. If Ohio beats Temple they'll likely end up with top 25 votes next week. College Football fans notice that; there is a big distinction between a team in the top 40 and one that is not.  The MAC usually has 2-3 programs in the top 40 and it would be a big deal if Ohio could be part of that an occassionally in the top 25. There are 13 non-BCS schools in the top 40 in football, and about the same number in baseketball but basketball has 3 times as many non-BCS programs. Satistically its going to be easier for Ohio to maintain regular top 40 recognition in football than basketball. Another knock on basketball is that while every football game is important to perception win/loss records don't really matter in hoops. The only gage is how a program does in March thus why pay attention to the season any earlier than that. I'm reading reports that TJ Hall has played well against DII competition. That is nice but from experience until hoops is about 6 MAC games in the rotation is in flux and we won't really understand the kind of team we have. I agree that Feb. and March hoops can be exciting with a lot to play for but its not football where every game counts.
