For me that one's easy, I voted for the football game. While a win over Kansas would be great, technically it's just one more non-conference game (although a win against Kansas sure would look nice when the tournament committee gets together to decide the 68 teams that get to go dancing). On the other hand, a football win guarantees two more post-season games and a chance to win the league championship.

For me it is simple.  A win vs Kansas takes us a step closer towards competing in a tournament that we have the possibility of winning and being national champions.  A win vs Kent takes us no closer to anything, except Detroit.

(Going back to the basketball board now.)

Ok for those that voted for Kansas, let's put it this way......if we lose to Kent, then Miami (you know...our RIVAL) gets the MAC East and thus goes to play for the title and not us, despite the fact that we beat them.  So yeah, easy choice, I choose win against Kent as the better thing.

Why not place the exact same poll on the Basketball board, too? I bet you get different results.

This is really tough because as much as I want to win Friday and go to Detroit. A win over a Top 10 program would be great as well. However as someone said, the game against Kansas is just another non-conference game and winning doesn't guarentee we go to the tournament. There is still a whole season to be played. I vote the win over Kent St.

Beat Kent. I hate the idea of not meeting expectations.

And just get Kansas out of your head. We're going to get smoked. Learn from it and get better, but I haven't seen anything from us that indicates we have a chance.

I thought about that LC...Didnt want to hog up the boards though.

I almost put a 3rd option for "too hard to decide, please dont make me" because that is how I feel.  On one hand, taking just some OOC win in the midst of a 30 game schedule over locking up a division title seems really silly.  But on the national exposure front, I don't think you can top a win over a top 10 program.

I realize we're likely going to get smoked by Kansas, and we're likely going to beat Kent...But that is not at all relevant to the hypothetical question.

Did you really just say that we have a chance at being National Champs in basketball?  Because that is what I think I read.  Please open your garage door when you warm up your car in the morning, the exhaust is rumored to be bad for your health.

Why can't I have both?

I think the Kansas would generate a better national impact especially coupled with our recent tourney success.  However I think the Kent State game can be just as important if not more. A win gets us into the MACC; if we win the MACC and take our momentum into a bowl win then you have a great culmination to the season, as well as the building blocks for maybe some top 25 votes to end the year, as well as to start next year.

This seems pretty clear to me.  A win gives Ohio another MAC East Championship, a shot at the first MAC title since '68, two more guaranteed nationally televised games, a guaranteed slot in a bowl game, the chance for Ohio to win our first bowl game ever, and a shot at reaching the most wins in a single season in the history of Ohio football.   Also, a win vs Kent and a win in the MAC title game would give Coach Solich a chance to reach his 100th career victory with our first ever bowl win.

Don't get me wrong, a win over Kansas would be great, but that still doesn't mean Ohio is in the tournament.  The Bobcats would likely still need to win the MAC tourney to get in.  A win at this point in the year also doesn't deliver the same type of national press the Georgetown victory.  I mean there would be recognition for it, but the game isn't even being televised.

Both would be great, but if I had to choose, it would Kent win big time (if you would have told me five years ago that I'd say that, I'd smack you in the head and call you an idiot).

This comes down to one question:  what can we do without?

Lose to Kent, the MAC east title is gone, the spot in the MAC championship is gone, most of our dreams for the season... down the drain.

Lose to Kansas, we can still get into the tourney and have a shot to win a national title.  Just win the MAC.

The comment about the national championship is theoretical too.  We should get into the tournament with hopes for a national title.  Realistic expectations do not (and should not... yet) need to include a national title, but as long as you have a shot, why not?

A completely meaningless volleyball match over a chance to play in the MAC title game in national tv? Now he's just messing with me.

That brings out my McEnroe: You can not be serious!?

If I can only choose one, then sorry, Groce's Guys, but I have to sacrifice you (although I hope you still give Kansas all they can handle).  The football program has progressed to a point where it's getting national recognition.  A loss to Kent would wipe out seven weeks of hard work, and as we've discussed elsewhere, maybe lock them out of a bowl.  The b'ballers still have plenty of opportunity to show their stuff this season.  Santa Clara is top 50 RPI; Temple has name recognition; the ESPN bracketbuster.  And of course the MAC tourney.  Winning three more this season would do wonders for the returning guys, and probably for recruiting.  I'll take a win tomorrow over Kent.

A win against the highest-ranked team to play in Athens is not meaningless, especially if makes a difference in tournament seeding.  Just because you prefer football doesn't make tonight's match meaningless.
