With the win last night ASU is now 6-6.  Granted two wins over 1-AA teams.  I'm sure they'll go to the NCAA for an exemption or whatever it's called.  Think it'll probably be granted?  One less spot?

From watching the game the announcers made it sound like they didn't think the NCAA  would grant the waiver. Even the coach after the game didn't sound like he thought they would be going bowling.

Apparently ASU may have a stronger case than usual because they scheduled a second 1-AA team only after San Jose State cancelled its scheduled game on short notice.

How does the NCAA decide? Does the fact that there are already more than enough teams without them play a role?

Doubt it...I think the justification will be the late pull out by San Jose which will result in ASU being granted the waiver and going to Vegas.  Probably can scratch that one of the list now.  I tend to think the goDaddy with a chance to win is the best hope for Ohio right now...we'll see.

Arizona Republic is reporting the NCAA is expected to rule on the school's bowl-eligibility appeal today.  So we will know one way or the other.

My guess is it is granted and ASU gets a bowl - If I'm Vegas I want them, not even a close call.  I'm sure the Vegas folks and Pac-10 folks were on the phone with the NCAA last night after the game.

Which means our Temple friend can cancel his reservations.  Utah vs. ASU - perfect geographic match-up for Vegas.

If ASU is granted a waiver, then presumably they would head to El Paso for the Sun Bowl, filling the Pac-10's spot in that bowl.  The Sun Bowl would have first dibs on ASU I believe, as they are entitled to the fourth selection from the Pac-10, while the Vegas bowl gets the 5th pick of Pac-10 teams.

Let's just hope our Temple friend doesn't have the last laugh...I still think the MAC (does it have any clout?) will try to help/protect the deserving 8-4 teams so we'll probably be somewhere.  But an ALL MAC matchup in Detroit seems very possible to me right now...UGH!

good catch flomo - thanks.

So you're telling me that the MAC is going to send two teams to Detroit in a game that will lose us (and probably both teams money), but the MAC and the Bowl will make money.  You can go ahead and count me in the vote no column on that one.

Yep, that's what you call a Conference "helping out" or "protecting" it's Bowl eligible teams.  If this comes to be be, we can all start another rant about getting out of the MAC and taking our product anywhere else.  I hear the MWC is looking for new members (joke folks...)

Agreed!! If we get the LCPB against Temple or any other MAC team, not only count me out for such a pointless game, but I'll be for just being done with the whole FBS farce as far as we're concerned and moving down a notch to the FCS level.

Edit: See JCW's post in another thread that the possibility of Ohio staying home is on the table with the powers that be. I can only assume that means they believe Ohio doesn't have the money to particpate in a bowl. If we don't have the money to participate, why are we even bothering with the FBS? Unless we have a "T. Boone Pickens" type of donor that donote the funds that can elevate us to a proper BCS level for football, what's the point? I'll stop now as the whole thing just p****** me off.

Us staying home would have NOTHING to do with our budget or us not wanting to go, but rather not selected.

Washington is better than Washington State but I give WSU a better shot against WA than Oregon State against Oregon.

Go Cougars and Ducks.

We have a LOT more to gain from Oregon losing than we do from them winning. A rather large chunk of change comes our way if TCU gets into the national championship game.

Actually, the BCS National Championship Game pays out exactly the same as any of the other BCS bowls, so it really doesn't make any difference to us.

Interesting quote to close out that article from ASU coach Dennis Erickson.

Quote:expand_more
"We end up going 6-6 and beating the University of Arizona," Erickson said. "We would have liked to have played another game, but we didn't win seven games, that's the bottom line. We did finish the season like we wanted. I'll take that game last night over any bowl game."
