WMU is out and with Wash winning, OU's status is less certain.

Team and coaching staff doesn't belong in a bowl game anyway after their inability to show up last week at Kent.

I would think MTSU's spot is precarious should Washington hold on (State just scored to get to within 21-14).

- Interesting that CBS has MTSU-Ohio in New Orleans. FIU-NIU in Detroit. Miami-Troy in Mobile. Louisville nowhere to be found.

Care to explain? one team shows up with everything to play for and can't beat a crap team who has nothing to play for. Please explain why this team belongs in a bowl game with the current crop of bowl eligible teams!

in my mind, it's pretty simple.  If we can go to a bowl game and make money, go.  If the bowl costs us money, stay home.  We're talking furloughs at OU next year.  The athletics department had to cut their business manager.  Playing in a bowl that means absolutely nothing is an expense we can forgo.

People, I repeat again, Temple LOST on the field to three MAC teams that SHOULD be in a bowl game before they are.  If the MAC doesn't make sure the really DESERVING teams (those that won on the field) go to the bowls, I think there are serious problems in the main office!

We would be the absolute laughing stock of college football if we turned down a bowl appearance. You thought Rufus was bad. We're talking about negative segments on PTI, Sportscenter, EPSN.com etc. If you think we arent taken seriously now, wait and see what happens if we decline a bid.

Not to mention what recruit would ever want to come here?

Pretty sure some of the main goals would be for a conference championship and a bowl win. So it means something. Good try though.

Could Papa John be keeping L'ville out of the Little Caesar's, and thus their last best hope for a bowl?  PJ is a local L'ville company and has the naming rights to the U of L's new stadium.  One fan (maybe not seriously) suggested that PJ could cut off the U of L if they went to Detroit:

Your basing the decision of bowl worthiness on ONE game.  I wanted the Bobcats to win the game also, but come on.  The season is 12 games long and teams become eligible at 6-6, to make that statement after the Kent game is lame.  Look at the whole body of work.  This team is eligible and deserving.

You can't not go to a bowl game because of the message it sends the team. It would be a killer on the recruiting trail as well.

Exactly. This team is as deserving of a bowl game as either of the last two Ohio bowl teams. What the Bobcats overcame to have such a great season was extroidinary. The team lost arguably its three best players within the first few weeks of the year! They deserve to get to play one more time and try to make up for the one bad game (well, Louisiana-Lafayette wasn't that great either) they played out of the last eight.

By this idiotic logic there would be about 10 teams that would be bowling.  Temple can't go because they lost with the MAC East on the line. Northern can't go because they lost to an inferior team in the MAC Championship.  NC State can't go because they lost to Maryland with the ACC Championship game on the line. Alabama can't go because they were winning big with the SEC Championship on the line and let it slip away. Boise State can't go because they choked away an undefeated season.

Losing to Kent does stink but it doesn't take away from the fact that this team accomplished some pretty darn good things this year. If they don't come up huge in Oxford and Philly then the Kent game means nothing anyway. The Bobcats earned a bowl game and they should enjoy what they earned through extremely hard work.   No matter what some knee-jerk computer jockeys have to say this was a good season that just happened to have a very disappointing conclusion, unless, of course, we can win a bowl game.

That is why it was the dumbest post ever.

Agree with you 100% about goals Ben and i also agree that a decision to forgo a bowl could be the number 1 sports story in America.  However, watching friends lose their jobs while we continue play games that have no bearing on a league or national title isn't much fun.  Other than the NIT and CBI, there aren't any other post season opportunities in any college sport after you have played the last meaningful game of the season.  And it those two cases at least you're playing in a tournament where there is a recognized tournament champion that hangs banners in the winners gym.

Is the Paul Bunyan festival that weekend in Nelsonville? Could cause a lot of fans not to drive to New Orleans.
