Uh, ESPN's Adelson is saying that if Mid Tenn wins this week they will play in the LC against a MAC team since the Sun Belt has a backup tie-in.  If that's true we better be hoping FIU wins this week, therwise we could be out.  Aren't we about the last one on the bubble right now?  Maybe Washington will lose a rival game with WSU and open another spot up.

The Sun Belt is only a backup for the bowl if it has a team with a 7-5 record or better, which it won't, so the Little Caesar's Bowl won't be required to take Middle Tennessee State if it wins. However, that does not mean it can't and it might not have any other choices anyway.

"Enjoy" what exactly? A win over Louisiana-Monroe in the Piggly Wiggly Bowl? Is that enjoyable? What happened to the days when bowls used to represent a challenge for a team at the end of the season. All I read about on this board is we shoudl be happy with whoever we get and wherever we go because we just need a bowl win. Frankly, raising a banner at Peden that says we won a meaningless bowl game against a team we would consider a cupcake if we played them in our early nonconference schedule, would do nothing for me. To raise this program up we need to play and beat quality teams. You don't raise a program up by beating up on lesser opponents and then bragging about it. I would rather see us get lost by 40 on the road at Wisconsin in the first round of the playoffs than beat (or even lose to) a lesser team in a bowl game in front of 14,000 fans. If it means getting clobbered in the first round year after year so be it because that one year when we can compete and win will be sweet. Just think back to that Pitt game we won. Imagine that x 100.

Not to overplay the significance of this, but my wife talked to an OU player today who said coaches are telling them there are three possibilities: Humanitarian, Las Vegas, or Sun Bowl. So at least that's the word third-hand... don't know what that's based on. Sorry, don't want to say the player... don't want anyone to get in trouble.

I would love either Vegas or the Sun Bowl,  largely because I couldn't go to the Humanitarian. Go Vegas! Go Sun Bowl! Pick us!

As much as I love reading it, Bleacher Report isn't really a valid source on the matter.  There's as much speculation there as there is on here.

Hmm . . . here we have third-hand information from a player and inside information from a piece of paper that JCW knows about that's being circulated on The Hill (Cutler not Washington).  Who to believe?  I'm still hoping for the Sun Bowl!

Too many bigger name schools want their hands on the Sun to make it likely. Everything would almost have to go right to give it to a MAC team. An article here says South Florida will take the Sun if they upset UConn (not likely though). Notre Dame is also in play for the Sun. In between USF, Notre Dame, and Boise State wanting to make any move they can for the Sun it will be a tough play for Ohio. Now that 6 win teams have equal status as 7 all the old rules about having to fill out the league contracts before placing a spare team have kind of been thrown out the door. CUSA and the WAC traded their bowl picks in the New Mexico and Sun Belt. Its back to the days of a mad scramble more or less to determine who plays in what game. The only protection the MAC has is within its own contracts and any backup agreements. Both backup agreements don't apply this year.

Wow, I sure hope that website's wrong.  We're not in a bowl and Miami's only reward for winning the MAC is to play Toledo in the Pizza Bowl?  If such a scenario's true, then both teams should really be pissed.  What a joke.

They show La.Tech playing in the New Orleans bowl.  If they lose today they'll be 5-7......just don't see them goin on that record.  Even if they win it's their 6-6 vs. our 8-4 which really sucks if they make it and we don't.

NBC's latest bowl projections has us going to the Armed Forces Bowl vs. Army
http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/39922542/ns/sports-college_football/

ARMED FORCES BOWL
Army (C-USA No. 2-6 or Army) vs. Ohio (MWC No. 4/5)
Dec. 30, Noon ET, ESPN
At University Park, Texas
Comment:
The Bobcats (8-4), who had their seven-game winning streak unexpectedly snapped at Kent State last Friday, 28-6, fill in for the Mountain West Conference, which didn’t come remotely close to filling this slot.

Actually, despite what NBC says, the Mountain West can fill all their bowls because Army is taking the Mountain West's spot in that game. Conference-USA also can fill its spot in the bowl.

And that's why we could be screwed.
