The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting that Frank's favorite AD Steve Pederson has  relieved Wannstandt of his duties. The bloggers that have been furious with PITT continue to mention that the PITT loss to OHIO as a blot on Wannstandt's record. They are also not the least bit happy with PITT playing in the Compass Bowl either against 6-6 Kentucky (whom we beat in our last meeting with them as well).

Can I be the first to nominate Mike Haywood for the job?

That would not be a bad move at all. It would really ignite the Pitt-WVU rivalry.

I'm sure some Pitt fans think they'll get Cowher.

Maybe Steve Pederson will try Bill Callahan again. What's that old adage if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Callahan came to Nebraska with a Pro pedigree, PITT plays in a Pro Stadium, so maybe he will  be a better fit this time.

I recommend he, Dave, take a year off and figure out what is good in life. I refer to a situation that he can secure for the long haul without unreasonable expectations.

I see that Golden is off the board for the Vandy job and with MN taken, he apparently isn't shopping.  Maybe he's just waiting for Joe Pa to retire.

Al Golden actually wouldn't be a bad move for Pitt. Golden is knocked for his teams not living up to the perceived expectations of how successful Temple football should be at this point. The program Golden inherited was in absolute shambles, only 1 win the preceding two seasons. At a few positions Golden has the best talent in the MAC though his teams still are just learning how to win. In light of the circumstances he's done a very good job and at a reputable school like Pitt could do very well.

Golden will know where he stands regarding PSU based on the Pitt job.  Tom Bradley (PSU Def. Coord) is strongly considered the heir to Paterno.  If Bradley has vibes this is not the case, Pitt is a perfect job for him - and they would hire him in a minute.  If Bradley stays put, Golden is never going to Happy Valley and can start looking beyond Temple.

Following his pattern of hiring failed AFC West coaches, I predict Josh McDaniel.

We get mentioned in this article as part of the reason he was forced out.  (not flattering to us)

Didn't realize Darrelle Revis was on the field for our victory over Pitt... that makes it that game even cooler in my mind...
