The man  was trying to get his QB to spike the ball on 4th down. Easy. Shane Montgomery coached in a MAC Championship Game.

Agree. He had his team and especially his young quarterback prepared for that game. I actually felt bad for the Miami kicker for a split second, but then remembered it was Miami so I recovered quickly. Congrats to Miami for bringing their A game.

Miami has got to be the luckiest team in the country.  How many times did it win a game on a crazy play late or nearly lose one late?  They get like an 85-yard TD in the last 10 seconds at Central. They are one play away from losing to then-winless Akron. And they're a tipped pass away from losing tonight.  Not to mention they were fortunate enough to get Temple after the Owls had been eliminated from the MAC title chase and after their top offensive and defensive players got hurt.

But damn, I guess we have to give MU credit. I liked the pregame pep talk Haywood gave that they showed a clip of during the fourth quarter.  He seems really intense.  I guess we all have to tip our hat... and then hope they get annihilated in their bowl game.

Its a lot like Buffalo and Akron's upsets in MAC title games tonight. Haywood had game plans that exploited NIU's weaknesses. While it was true Miami had some luck at the very end they should have probably not needed the game to go down to the wire if it wasn't for that decision to go for it on forth and long up 6 points.

Very true.  As a NE Ohio sports fan and lifelong Ohio fan, I wish my teams had that kind of luck.  But then again, there are those that say good teams make their own luck.

what we need, and I hate saying this because I hate "that" school, but we need, Mike Haywood, and Jerry Kill, and Tod Boeckman, and Al Golden to all stay in the MAC. And I hope KSU pulls out a good hire too. I'd love to see 5 or 6 teams dominate this league and have the good coaches stay for awhile. pipe dream, I know, but that's what I think of when I see Haywood.

For the record, OCF and I both called this last year, the guy has the it factor, hard to explain, but been in his corner when he worked here in 1990.

You both also called Stan Parrish.

We'll see what the future holds. I will say that Boucher makes me nervous. He's clearly better than Dysert.

Ted I agree with your concerns about Boucher...he is better than Dysert imo.  Miami is going to be loaded at QB next year.

LB, agree with you on all points except the last one. When Miami or any other MAC team is playing OOC, whether it's a bowl game or NCAA tournament game in another sport, I root for them -- even when they are MU. We win when MAC teams do well against teams from other conferences.

So I wish the Redhawks well against whomever ... as well as the Huskies, Rockets and Owls.

I follow that logic usually but make an exception for Miami. It's just a rivalry thing. Too many friends of mine went there, and I just want OU to always have an upper hand.  If went to a bowl and won it and Miami lost its bowl game -- added to the fact OU won big at Miami -- I could still claim superiority.

I'll root for all other MAC teams in bowls!

" Q.) What did we learn from this tonight?

AND

A.) Keep the dumb penalties to zero--don't have motion penalties or jump offside on 4th and short

A.) If you keep the game close you can beat ANYONE at the end.

A.) Good game plans win games--Kent/DUMB game plans win games for Kent.

Isn't his brother Bobby the waterboy for Miami? Maybe the Redhawks' "quality H2O" was the difference last night.

Ted, we also stated that Parrish needed a chance.  That team that was so successful was loaded with senior laden talent who played together and took lumps for three years, with a legit athlete at QB, that cupboard was bare.

I am really BITTER about the way our season turned out.

Either we aren't very good and my expectations and standards need to be significantly lowered or we really underperformed...and opened the door to a redhawk team which, with a 6 point lead, disdained a sure thing field goal, instead going for the fake and the td, missed--and yet still won the MACC.  Coach of the year after that really stupid fake field goal decision?  Yeah, disdaining a 9-point--two score--lead really deserves to be rewarded.

I am NOT HAPPY right now.

Get over it, Monroe.  Too many good things happened to Ohio this year to be bitter about anything bad that happened and M%$#% just made a stand for MAC East dominance.  Didn't we all think they were the third or fourth best team in our division a couple weeks ago?

Every year its the same stuff: the West is loaded, the West is the better Division, whoever wins the West wins the MACC easy; yada, yada, yada.

Well, we cleaned M%$#@'s clock and today they're conference champs.  Yeah, we spit the bit in a meaningful game but how can you be negative about OUr entire season?

You get over it.  We owe me a few MAC Chamionships.  We keep having seasons with games in which we just don't perform.   I can accept losing--provided we show up.

May we, please, have a season in which we perform.  2006 was the only one in the last 40+ years.

Monroe, Ohio University, it's student athletes nor it's administration owes you sh**!  To believe otherwise is showing your egocentrical side.  Ohio Athletics existed long before you and shall exist long after you.
