What would the article talk about exactly?  How the Bobcats floundered through the first part of the season, then turned it around to go on a winning streak in the mighty MAC, only to fall on their faces in the last game of the season.  Then they could talk about how they lucked into playing in a meaningless bowl game.

That should definitely be the article they write instead of talking about how their home team is playing in yet another BCS game.

I am just as much of a homer for the Bobcats as anyone else on this board, and will be one of the 10,000 people watching the meaningless bowl game on TV...but come on, let's put things in perspective.  On a national, or even State/Central Ohio level, Ohio stumbling into a bowl game on December 18th because another conference didn't have enough bowl eligible teams is not news.  If we want to be relevant, we need to have a great season, beat a BCS conference team, and be in the top 25.  Until then teams like Ohio State will always trump the Bobcats in the media outside of Athens, Ohio...and they should.

I get your point.

If Ohio fans could care less about this bowl and OUr Cats then why should the Dispatch.

Why monitor the Dispatch for coverage? As Wannamaker suggested, focus on the Messenger. What have they published?

True...we can do that.....I just like positive articles about OUr school that promote the university.....help in recruiting...etc. etc.......outside of the Appalachian Triangle (Athens-Hocking-Vinton).

There is only ONE meaniful bowl game in college football. ALL the other ones are meaningless.

Agreed, and that bowl is the New Orleans Bowl.

I refer to it as the Hocking Valley. The Bobcats should pull a Fresno State and put a big cursive "H" on the back of their helmets to pay hommage to the Hocking river.

While you're waiting for the Dispatch, you can always count on the Montgomery Advertiser--they even have a quote from Donovan Fletcher on p2:

Just some facts would be nice.

Everything else does its own job.

I get the impression you're intentionally setting yourself up to be disappointed, with the real purpose being to taking a shot at the Dispatch. Am I wrong?

Isn't waiting for the Dispatch to run an article on Ohio's bowl game like waiting on FoxNews to run a positive article on Obama?

I've said before there will be coverage in the days leading up to the game, to expect a daily article or an article two weeks out is not realistic, there are other sports going on that require coverage, including yes the Buckeyes.  In terms of business and readership Ohio University does very little for the Dispatch so why should they cover Ohio University.

You are right Doc, they should run a story over a week out from the New Orleans Bowl, I am pledging never to watch Channel 10 or Pick up a Columbus Dispatch again!

Please be sure to let me know about an article tomorrow. I leave for the grocery store around 8:30, so if you can tell me by then, I can grab on while I'm out. Otherwise I'll have to make a special trip.

You're right...Thing is, it's also not their job to actively pursue and exaggerate any negative pub on Ohio's First & Finest they can, but that doesn't stop them from doing so.

To Wanny's point...This is exactly why even though I've lived in
Central Ohio for 15 years I haven't purchased a copy of that rag in 14.  It's also the reason I purchased a satellite radio as soon as they hit the market.  It makes life in lemming central ever so much more tolerable.

The simple fact is that when you are the flag ship paper of a State's capital city, it is indeed your responsibility to cover (even if only the high points) things like
Ohio garnering it's 3rd bowl bid in the last 5 years.  Beyond our interest as fans / Alumni, many of these kids grew up playing the game in this State and the fact that they wear Green & White rather than Red & Pewter doesn't change the fact that they are Ohio
products.

The thing is the Dispatch covers many positive aspects of Ohio University from trustee news to major donor gifts to the quality research being done on the Ridges.  As for the negative, but sorry they were news stories and many of them made papers and media outlets that far outreach Columbus, but hey you don't hear anyone "condeming" them.
