Just got mine too.  Thank goodness we didn't make the championship game - the order deadline was at noon today.

Tough to cry poor-mouth when money is being spent in this fashion.

The mailing was a mistake, but even the most frugal and fiscally conscious organizations make mistakes from time to time.

Rather than simply file 13ing it, I thought i"d make a half-a**ed attempt at a joke with this post, although, in my other posts,  I firmly support OUr coaches, Our staff, and OUr play calling......   Please.....choose a side, you're  fence jumper... "Whinnyfaker"

I 100% support a lot of things, including fiscal austerity, if you have a problem with that tough.  Not all things are black and white.  I do support all of those things you mentioned, but the mailing of brochures have nothing to do with coaching, play calling and the like.....Nice try though

Sure seems like an incredible waste to me. I mean, is it possible that someone on staff in the Convo doesn't know we lost to Kent and are not playing tomorrow night in Detroit?

They may make mistakes, but not completely idiotic and obvious mistakes.  Come on...How can this possibly happen?!   These people work in the athletic department and don't even know their football team is not actually in the championship?  I can't think of any scenario where this is just a ho hum mistake.  Epic fail.

Are we sure we can't blame the USPS, or maybe the printer who created them were probably the group who physically took them to the post office for mailing?

While it might not have been smart to drop them off before the actual game was played....I could see the mailers being given to the USPS prior to the holiday (Wednesday?) and then mailed out by the USPS on Monday.

The USPS is known for their high level of efficiency.

There isn't exactly a lot of time to get something printed and delivered given the time frame, so I assume the would need to print them prior to the Kent game.  Sending the message via a couple of emails was probably the way to go.  Maybe they have concrete data that says a mailing generate would generate more sales.

Aren't each of the member schools asked to sell tickets, regardless of participation?

I'm wondering how many people actually read this vs are just piling on. Because when I read "Order deadline is Wednesday, December 1st at 12:00pm. Your credit card will only be charged if Ohio participates in the MAC Championship" it pretty much meant to me that because of the time frame between the game and the next game, there was a gamble (albeit a bad one) that they may have to toss things in the mail ahead of time, hoping Ohio would win, not necessarily knowing the outcome. Granted, it seems silly, I thought the same, but the other three pages in the mailer do apply. So maybe they were penny pinching after all by combining. (also, mine didn't have a metered date, just the non-profit stamp OU uses, so if some of them were dropped in the mail Monday that's a different story)

And if there are seat upgrades for grabs Al.... Not sure if I would choose Alan's seats over mine. But if Wannamaker''s seat is up for grabs at the game, I want in ;) !

Get a jump start on mailing out the flier before our spot is sealed...I can buy into that...Except, if your whole reason for doing that is to allow people more time to plan, I don't think you've accomplished your mission when people are receiving them THE DAY BEFORE THE CHAMPIONSHIP!

Our fate has been sealed for 6 days...Sorry but there has to  be some incompetence involved here.  Even if some of it lies on the Post Office.  Bottom line, if I was working in the athletic department, there is no way I wouldve let these get mailed out post Friday.

{Sarcasm mode on} My nomination for the mailgate scapegoat is the university mail room.  In my days working at Ohio University that was an excuse you always kept in your back pocket and pulled out when necessary.  It always had instance credibility.  {Sarcasm mode off}

I see an organization struggling to live up to the expectations of its ever watchful internet critics while working on a shoe string budget.

Please, send 'em a stamped, self addressed envelope to return your next ticket order back to help make up for it.

How does a shoe string budget have anything to do with this incident?  That would be a legit argument if they didn't do anything.  In this case, they spent the time, resources, and money to prepare it all AND send them out.  I'm usually OK with the limited budget excuse, it is usually valid.  I'm sorry but this is just plain dumb and embarassing.

A shoestring budget, for those of us experienced in it, means that your managers are so busy scurrying around to plug every hole in the dike that a lot of little things fall through the cracks - like seeing if the mail was or wasn't taken to the post office.

No one's arguing that mailing the stuff Monday was better than not mailing it, but wouldn't you be more upset if the mailing wasn't teed up in the event we were actually going to the MACC?

Not that I know for a fact but I think that all mailings cannot simply be dumped into a USPS box when it comes from the athletic department.  It has to go through the university mailing system which has a built-in delay factor.  So, USPS isn't the culprit, overall systemic timeliness is the probably the cause.  That falls into OBC's conjecture and also is a great indication of the system's waste index that Wanna and A Swank proposed.

BTW, got mine today when I looked over the week's mail.

Got mine today too.  I know the USPS is slow, but I'm only 2.5 hours away.  I stand by my statement, better send an email next time!
