Check out this story:

So, as I understand it:

- Joke-cutt may or may not be firing Randy Shannon
- John Gruden calls Joke-cutt and says "Kirby, click away from the freecell for 5 minutes - I'm your man"
- Joke-cutt immediately fires Shannon, knowing that Gruden is just a few signatures away from being his coach.
- Gruden backs out. Joke-cutt is furious b/c he has to do some actual work and was getting really far on freecell.
- Joke-cutt saves face by hiring Al Golden.

Let's analyze a few things:

- Many of you are going to cry foul on Gruden, which I agree with.
- However, peel back the onion and it was clear Joke-cutt was completely out of his league on this entire situation. Gruden played him like a fiddle (probably to increase his worth in next years market), and Kirby wasn't savvy enough to play the situation the way it needed to be played.

I'm not saying any of us would have been able to see the signs and play it right either, but our chosen fields are also not athletic administration of collegiate athletics.

As I've said on many occasions, the guy is not cut out to be a big time collegiate Athletic Director. He's a complete farce who's only real qualifications come from being a collegiate LB under Bill Snyder at Kansas State. Knowing he stayed at my fine institution for 3 years and basically shat on the place, makes me all the more mad at the jackals that hired him. Secondarily, Donna Shalala should be forced to take a long look in the mirror to figure out why she made the same mistake we did.

Maybe he can turn the tide of conversation by cutting a few sports, thus re-allocating funds back to the University and making him look like some sort of folk hero down there.

What a gaffe of a situation. Should be great when Golden keeps them firmly in the middle of the ACC Coastal (or whatever division they are in now that they have fully reached irrelevant status) and playing for Sun and Liberty Bowl titles.

Good work Joke-cutt. Good work.

Sorry, this doesn't paint Hocutt in a bad light from where I'm standing. Shannon was on the hot seat already. He deserved to be fired so it wasn't like they wish they had him back. It wasn't late in the process so it doesn't leave them scrambling.  This story paints Gruden as the douche not Hocutt.  That is, of course, whether it's even true or not. Now whether you believe Golden is a good hire is a different question.
