Horrendous.

Can't believe Ohio University would want to be associated with these dudes.

Let's just say that it was a very unique experience. A win is a win, but let's hope we never see these guys again in this lifetime!

I enjoyed Portnoy and Big Cat but also knew what to expect going in.

They're definitely not for everyone and were never going to bring a traditional broadcast. I thought they were hysterical late and glad they gave a shoutout to OU's journalism program.

I liked the broadcast for the most part, would have liked it a lot less in an important game like the MACC or late season must wins. Honestly feel like the video and audio was better than most ESPN+ or CBS Sports games, and they had a pregame show and all that where they actually spoke about the game. Big Cat actually watches all the MACtion games as well.

The exposure OU got during this game does not even come close to any other bowl game we would be in. Look at the views on the posts from barstool sports. We are talking millions of views.

I'll repeat what I said in a Facebook post tonight..
You guys are cracking me up with the Barstool hate. That was a MUCH better overall production than anything that goes on ESPN. If this game was on ESPN, they would have just talked about the playoffs the entire time and generally ignore us. The camera work would gave been much worse too! Heck, Barstool even had the floating camera over the field! Were the announcers wacky, of course, but they were at least invested in the game on the field!
Go Cats! Great win!

Big fan of Barstool experience. I'm old and it's not my lawn anymore. Adapt or step aside folks.

I posted the following paragraph back in mid November after my first exposure to barstool:

"I watched most of the UT-UAB game and some of the Akron night cap Friday night on Barstool streaming. The production/announcing crew was nothing short of a frat party with sophomoric dialogue centered on partying and gambling. I had no idea what barstool is or who David Portnoy is so I wasn't ready for the onslaught of visual and audio images coming from the broadcast. To use a favorite word of my 2 children, it was "annoying."

The Arizona Bowl was my second time watching a game on barstool. It'll be OK if it's my last.

This year, in the MAC bowl games that I've watched ESPN has been much better at actually talking about the game they are broadcasting.

I’m a boomer and I absolutely enjoyed the Barstool announcers tonight! They were funny , and at least one announcer was an absolute OU honk! Great! Guess what, so am I! My life is filled with enough stress, and if something that’s irrelevant and funny, makes me smile, I’m all for it.

Oh yeah, news flash, keep your eye on the prize-your alma mater won a bowl game tonight. That’s what matters.

Not sure what one has to do with the other. Can't a Bobcat fan be thrilled with the bowl win and not enjoy the broadcast of the game at the same time?

I'm glad to hear that! My experience with nearly every ESPN game is that we tend to get the 8th string announcers and the weakest production they offer. Like them or hate them, Barstool treated this game like it was the Superbowl and I had fun with it!

Different doesn't always equal bad/worse. I was skeptical going in but thought they did a decent job for the most part, this game was a layup for this crew to keep in entertaining.

In order to truly appreciate pretty much every facet of this presentation, you must follow the company on social or listen to their podcasts.

Big Cat was all for Ohio tonight and I think he brought the most football "knowledge" to the broadcast. To those unfamiliar, I recommend listening to couple episodes of Pardon My Take, you may form a different opinion after or may hate them even more.

I could've done without Portnoy but no way he's going to pass up this opportunity to run his mouth for 4 hours.

All in all I rate this bowl a 6.9 (think pizza review). Not good, not horrible. Would've liked to have been in a higher payout but I guess it doesn't matter that much.

It isn't anything to adapt to. We had the same sort of announcers in XFL games 25 years ago and it existed in forms other than football long before that. That isn't anything new by any stretch. You can find in in pro wresting or certain guys up in front of their Sunday congregation and you could have found it centuries ago.

Personally, I thought they were pretty funny! Portnoy was a bit much but I expected that going in. Big Cat was pulling for us big time. Way better than if we had a Kirk Herbstreit or ESPN Crew. Solid 8/10.

I was not totally crazy about the Barstool schtick, but I didn't feel like it was awful. I frequently turn off the volume on second tier bowl games I'm only mildly interested in--the ESPN experience does not usually improve these games for me. I did like the fact that Barstool treated it like it an important bowl game--that was apparent. I liked the fact that the booth had two homers (it made it fun). I probably would like second tier bowl games better if we had more of that. However, I could use less crap like the fat slob running to get the kickoff tee.

I think that sports broadcasting needs some outsiders to shake the box a bit. Sometimes it's painful to see companies take a shot at it. Overall, I'm fine with the broadcast.

They reacted to what was happening on the field as what a fan watching would. ESPN announcers are often clueless about the momentum and discuss teams in narrow stylistic boxes. Always instructing the audience what a team is and is not capable of.

We have sat through Jerod Cherry and Mike Reghi. The Barstool crew wasn’t perfect but the broadcast was better than some of the jokers usually assigned by ESPN. Set your expectations. It was totally what I thought.

The actual focus on the game on the field vs the “final four” games was good.
The shtick was not my something I would tune in for on a regular basis.
The outcome was great.
Doubt I would tune in again unless it is the only option for a must see game.

While older alums may not like it, being in this game was a home run for OU. Recruits follow barstool, young people looking to apply to schools follow barstool. That is much more important than some old guy sitting in his recliner eating a hot pocket getting mad at the announcers.

I was fine with the broadcast. my son knew all the “characters” so i knew what to expect including the deference to portnoy. at the least the announcers were engage in the game even if you didn’t find them engaging. would I search out games they do? No but if we or a game of interest is on barstool I’m good to go.

Worst broadcast ever. Watched second half with the sound off. Much better.

Yeah, cuz, I agree that the actual game broadcast was pretty good. However, some of sideline antics were almost junior high stuff, like the fat Barstool guy running across the field the commentary about his blubber. And, the post-game production was quite good. The pre-game crap though was just uncalled for with all the f-bombs. I'm sure there were kids watching that. Just total lack of class.

They knew their demographics. It's what the younger crowd likes; making memes and Bro Culture. The views and likes on Twitter have been super positive. Newer crowds introduced to MACtion football.
Bettors sharing screenshots of their wins and their excitement for Ohio majority of the time pulling the covers. Older crowd doesn't like the affiliation and I respect that.

The way this young generation moves and operates, it's a hit whether you think so or not. It was entertaining and they gave mad love to the journalism school. They even named a few famous graduates as well.

The younger crowd just loses excitement when older announcers commentate. It's dry, mono-tone talk and they commentate about things hardly anyone younger knows because they were either too young or not born yet.

You can't tell me the military fly-ins and introduction of skydivers wasn't bonechilling in the beginning. I wish other sports veneues did that.

Just my thoughts but I like the publicity we are getting on this bowl win, especially with how we finished. Whether you liked the announcers or not, I loved how they were pulling for their teams and had a little head to head action in the booth.
