NOBODY CARES ABOUT OOC SCHEDULES

Lets start with attendance-  How big of a difference will scheduling 1 "quality" opponent in Peden each year make on attendance? Our 2 biggest games ever in Peden were against UConn (24,617) and Pitt (24,545), by comparison, our biggest game this year was against Wofford (22,955). Two Big East teams drew 1,500 more fans then an FCS team. Is that the magic number to determine success? Would 1500 more fans, once a year, suddenly make OHIO football a nationally respected program? Or maybe it's a residual effect, attendance for other games in Peden will be higher after a big name comes to town. Well, lets look- attendance for the next home game after UConn- 16,018; after Pitt- 16,721, and after Wofford- 19,455. Nope, that's not it.

You fail to add in the couple million people who also watched OU v Pitt on TV.

You do realize that there are people who now post on this board simply because they saw us in the Pitt game and have been pulling for us ever since.

also, Wofford was band alumni day as well, or something to that effect, they came for the band, not to see us play Wofford.

One example of team we could have scheduled in the past decade is UVA.  They have played at Western Michigan, at Wyoming and at Middle Tenn State.

First off, I wholeheartedly agree about upgrading the home schedule. But if your first goal is upgrading the program, are the programs at WMU, Wyoming and MTSU markedly better than ours because they played UVA at home?

The home schedule next season should be somewhat improved from '10.  At least there'll be two teams that had winning records this season (Temps (8-4) and Fiami (9-4), tho they'll have new coaches) and probably an improved 5-7 Terd team (it'll be Holiday's second year).  Kent was 5-7 this year, tho they may struggle next year with a new coach.  G-W was 4-7 and the MAC west team will likely be either WMU (6-6) or BSU (4-8).

Compare this to Wofford (3-8 in '09; eventually 10-3 this year, tho we had em early), UT (5-7 in '09; eventually 8-5 this year but we had em early), LaLaf (6-6 in '09; 3-9 this year), BG (7-6 in '09; 2-10 this year), Buf (5-7 in '09; 2-10 this year) and Akron (3-9 in '09; 1-11 this year).

The '09 record of this year's home schedule: 29-43.  The '10 record of this year's home schedule: 26-48.  The '10 record of the five presumably known teams on next year's home schedule: 31-29, with Fiami to play its bowl.  Add WMU and it's 37-35; add BSU and it's 35-37.

The word PERSPECTIVE is the appropriate word to use when we all discuss our football program.
Prior to Frank,  Knorr produced a record of 11-37, no winning seasons & and no bowl games.
Franks 1st 4 years record was 23-27, 1 winning season & 1 bowl game.
Franks year 5 & 6,  2 winning seasons, a 17-10 record & 2 bowl games.
There is no doubt in my mind that Frank has turned the program around.
We can always debate strength of schedule and what that means to the W-L record, however it's the conference performance that has also improved under Frank.
I believe that Frank has set goals for this program and they are long term ones.
In my opinion Frank has an advantage over other MAC coaches in that he didn't have the same pressure for instant success.
Frank and the administration agreed that turning a program around like ours was a major under taking and required time and patience. This coupled with what I believe as Franks last coaching stop, enabled this long term strategy to be put into place. Also notice that Franks assistants have also bought into this approach and thus have stayed on.
So, has this strategy worked, yes. based upon the results.
Now that the program has been turned around and has built a great foundation it should be in a position for greater accomplishments moving forward.
Back in those Knorr years we were all critical for the lack of a winning record, not mention the losses to Miami.
The future is bright with our program and Frank running it.
Good things happen to those with patience.
Seeing and living through this transformation is a great experience, let's all enjoy the ride.

Over under is only 63 more days until boredom sets in and a certain poster or posters start another thread about the quality of our schedule.

I'll be here all year.

I agree with all you've said.  However, I must admit that I sometimes have trouble with the patience part.  Your post helped me put things in proper perspective.  I'm looking to enjoy the ride in 2011.  Thanks.

In fairness it is hard to defend the facts of our schedule. But it ultimately comes down to just win baby.
