they lost to the dredges of the B11/12 -- the Minnesota Gophers.  (My mom's alma mater; in her day they were truly the Golden Gophers.)  Iowa played a horrible game; unmotivated.  Thought they just had to show up.  They also played like zombies against the Evil Empire two weeks ago.  Better refuse any bowl bid that comes their way. They are such an embarrassment.

Perhaps, OCF. I, however, like to think of Iowa and Minnesota as part of an o$u's murderers' row.

You've got a good point.  Shows there's always more than one way to interpret the facts in any given situation.

Wrong!  They just lost to Minnesota.  Please take a look at the U of M schedule this year and the high-power teams they've lost to.  On their worst day, which was probably today, Iowa would have lost to Akron.

Just being realistic for those who think any MAC team who is 8-4 is comparable to major conference teams who are 8-4.  There are some who have posted that there should be an expanded playoff to include a MAC team which is not realistic.  Sure in basketball a low major confernce like the MAC might have a team where two or three players can carry the load, but that is not realistic in football where you need dozens to create depth at 22/24 positions.

Actually, BG86, you are not being realistic. Please look at the schools who beat U of M. They are at least two in our league (one literally). In fact one of these is actually beneath us in the pecking order of colege football. If you had said we couldn't beat Iowa on its best day, I wouldn't be arguing, but the Minnesota game shows that on their worst day they are every bit on par with an 8-4 MAC team, or worse.

OCF:  as must as I like you, and as much as I do respect your opinions, even when I disagree with them.  Come on!  #1 Minnesota has improved as the season went on, and #2 we just got the total shit kicked out of us by Kent State, and you are saying that Iowa does not deserve a bowl, but I am going to ass-u-me that you think we should go?

As for the comments made by Gordon Gee, they were not well thought out by a man in his position, but yesterday I heard no less than a dozen other talking heads and officials all saying the same thing.

jCW: the purpose of this thread was to make fun of those guys who posted and said we didn't deserve a bowl game because we flopped in our final regular season game. It was sarcasm. BG86 just injected a red herring that I had to respond to.

He did qualify his remarks by saying he is not an Xs and Os guy.

Who did you hear saying what about Gee's remarks?

BTW - Every team OSU has beaten thus far finished with 5 or more losses during the regular season -- except one.

This is getting tiring. Please post U of M's Sagarin. It'll make my point so clear even you can understand it. That's Minnesota we are talking about not Michigan, just so you're not any more confused than you already are.

We can agree to disagree.  I think 20 or 25 bowls games are enough and I don't think we are a top 50 team.

As much as you ran your mouth on the tram on the way to the MAC Championship a few years ago have at it.  My Dad said who in the hell is that guy that seems to know so much about everything.  My Answer "Ohio Cat Fan".

Well, I actually enjoyed meeting you and your Dad at the MACC a few years ago.  I must admit I've had a hard time since equating the two nice guys I met there with some of your diatribes here.  At least I'm the same obnoxious guy in person that you find right here on the board.

You may think we have too many bowls and that's a defensible position, but one that I disagree with.  However, your selective use of Sagarin rankings to try to say that Iowa on a bad day could not be beaten by a MAC team is not arguing in an honest manner.

Just for the record, here's the stellar schedule and results for the 2010 not-so-golden Gophers:

Iowa 27 - #12 Missouri 24
ATTENDANCE: 53,453

Troy 48 - Ohio 21

I will stand by my statement that there are too many bowl games and Ohio was not deserving of a bowl.  All in all I think we had a good season factoring in loosing Keller and Brazil, but that does not mean we were a bowl quality team. I simply have trouble getting excited about playing in a third tier bowl when we can't win the MAC let alone not even make the Championship.

Say what you want about the Sagarin Ratings, but the rankings of Iowa and Ohio seemed to play out in the bowl games.

As far as my "Diatribes" my last post above was simply responding to your arrogant comments about me:

You wrote: This is getting tiring. Please post U of M's Sagarin. It'll make my point so clear even you can understand it. That's Minnesota we are talking about not Michigan, just so you're not any more confused than you already are.

I will agree with Bobcat Love:  I really don't care if you are on a boat or ship, or when you are going to bed.....

OCF with another dandy...just as Iowa beats the #12 Team in the Country.

"Guys, I'm not going to be able to post today. I'm going to Kroger with my wife in the morning, then we have a lunch at Abrios with an old friend who's down from Fremont for the week. Then my wife and I are taking a walk at the Rec Center. I'll try and login to the site from my iphone, has anyone every tried that before or will I be the first person to check Bobcat Attack while walking at the Athens Rec Center? After the Rec Center I'm eating an early dinner, watching The Closer, playing some online backgammon, and calling it a night. Oh yeah, I think Groce should change Freeman's number to #3 because he likes to shoot 3 pointers."

Agree. This thread is a bit confusing anyway.BG86 says Iowa could beat OU on its worst day, which is probably a bit of a stretch. But his point seems to have been: OU is not very good right now (post Kent and Troy), and therefore we (and in this case OCF) should not be beating our chests.

OCF takes BG86 literally--and probably too literally--and works overtime to upend BG86's hypothetical. OCF was perhaps a bit offended by the notion that OU could not beat a Big 10 team, which is easy to disprove.

Does BG86 have a point, that this team needs plenty of work? Yes.
If you take BG86's point literally, does OCF have a point? Yes.

Seems to be no more to it than that.

I guess you really are that stupid, BL.  You apparently have no idea the context of my original post that started this thread.   Just to 'splain it to you it was a satirical statement aimed at the morons who were saying that Ohio didn't deserve a bowl bid because we lost to Kent State.  I even explicitly pointed out the satirical nature of the post further down in the thread.  I knew you were dumb, but I didn't realize the depths of your stupidity.

Hey Carl, Love got you pretty good on that one.  Here's how you guys can settle this once and for all.  The next time we have a Saturday home game, invite Aaron to the middle school for the Saturday morning basketball games.  I'll even come out of my 12 year broken leg retirement for that one.  SBH and Squared might be convinced to show up to along with McKinney and his head band.  What say you guys?
