Here's my list:

Find a quarterback and stick with them.  If we take some lumps because of youth at that position, it wouldn't be a horrible situation because they can improve as the season progresses.  Teach Bates to throw better or find a new guy to be signal caller.  Oh, and while we're on Bates...

He would do us well to be a speed/option back or as a reciever.  Wildcat quarterback- great idea.  If we feel the need to keep him in, I would love to see our shotgun runs give Phil the option to pull the ball and do a naked boot to the far side of the field.  I don't think we did it much at all this year in the games I was able to see (if they did in others, I retract this statement.)  I'll take Bates over most defensive ends we'll see in a foot race to the edge.

Use a fullback in the running game!  lead blockers are great for quick hitting runs rather than thse other runs that develop slowly (unless it's option).

I liked Monroe's screen pass post.

Defense- work on pass defense as a whole.  Blitzing, defensive line pressure, corner coverage.  All needed work.

Probably more than anything though, is COMPOSURE of some kind.  When we played good, our guys were unstoppable.  When we didn't, they got down on themselves instead of not panicking.

We're mediocre right now.  No MAC title, no bowl win.  Still got to 8 wins though.  We need to get over the hump sometime, and call me crazy but next season would be a great opportunity for it.

We have New Mexico State and Rutgers on the road.  Notable home games next year will include Marshall, Miami, Temple, and Kent State.  AKA some of the biggest games for us the past couple years.  Does anyone know our MAC West game?

Monroe- You had some good stuff so I probably said them again.  I do disagree with the not having a leader on defense though (see Noah Keller if he stays healthy.)

Frankly, I would have taken this thread a lot more seriously if it were titled-what I would like to see instead of my list of demands.

66--If I put in a request, it may or may not come to fruition.  If I demand, them I'm sure it will.

Rational thought rules.

Also, while the headline may have been goofy, can you deny that my specific thoughts are plausible?  Don't dent the content by dint of prejudice against the headline or the poster.

I'll have to read them again. Been out of town for 17 of last 19 days days-so haven't taken a lot of time for detailed analysis.  Much of what you have said about certain needs, I am in agreement with.  I think it's time for some changes in offensive and defensive schemes/whatever to acheive the next level for sure.

66--And we're just the guys to do it! (to kinda quote Animal House)

Out of town travel for business or pleasure--mildly important.  Daily keeping up with all very urgent, well thought out posts on BA--top priority.

I demand that we sparkle next season.  Yeah, the years under GotFrank have been 'turn the corner.'  Yes, we're a winning program.  Not nearly sufficient any longer.  Nothing less than 11 wins, a MAC title, and either a bowl win in a lesser bowl or a close loss to a 'major' in a bigtime bowl is acceptable for next season.

I demand that several players bring hard nose, spirited, no-boasting play next year.  The kind of action that is well above what the MAC typically sees.   The kind of play that is of national prominence quality.  No more blase, MAC level ball here.

I demand what we are capable of.

Nomore piddling at the end.  I demand that we become more dominant the later it is in a game.

Ideally, the starters will put the game away early and subs can come in to finish the game. This reduces snaps taken by starters so they don't wear down through a long season or pick up an injury during mop-up time. It also enhances player development of the young players. They will not be dominant as the starters and finishes are not as pretty as if the starters play the whole game. Stats for the starters will also take a hit, so, you really need team players. Now when the game is close throughout it comes down to having playmakers who will make the throw, block, sack, catch, run or interception. So in my perfect world with backups finishing it is unlikely the backups will be dominant and the more the game is in hand the more you will see coach Solich killing the clock, hopefully padding first downs not touchdowns.

Good point, Bcat2.  My post was directed to the tough games.

No.  Wait a minute.  The easy games, too.  I want our back-ups showing up pretty strong, also.  It's time for some seriOus football all ways 'round.
