I think it's interesting that Pitt reportedly didn't hire Dana Holgerson because he didn't meet the so-called Pitt morality standards. (Holgerson is now in-waiting, whatever that means, at fierce rival WVU). Then when Pitt hired Haywood, they made special mention of his strong moral character.

Of course, Pitt could always hire Don Treadwell right before signing day. That would be cool.

Thanks for the info, Pataskala.  I guess from your stats it's most likely that it'll be settled out of court or be dropped before trial.

However, if it did go to trial and he was found innocent would he have a case against Pitt for wrongful termination?  Or, would the contractual language likely be the trump card?

He would have a case, but how strong it would be depends on the terms of the contract and on PA law.  The school also would likely argue that they had cause to fire him since he would be ineffective as a recruiter while his assault case is pending, and his trial might not occur until after signing day, which is only a month away.

Contracts are rarely signed that quick, sometimes takes months to work out specifics. Pitt was no exception.

Pitt's lawyers do not appear to be idiots - they are already separating from the situation.  From their release:
"To be clear, the University's decision is not tied to any expectation with respect to the terms on which the legal proceeding now pending in Indiana might ultimately be concluded," the statement said. "Instead, it reflects a strong belief that moving forward with Mr. Haywood as our head coach is not possible under the existing circumstances."

Its odd to me that this would happen in time frame concurrent with George Leary making a big splash with UCF in a bowl game.  I was thinking that the "morality" statute on Leary may have run its course, if only because he's proven again that he can coach some football.

Granted, Leary wasn't guilty of anything worse than bad judgment but, so far, neither is Haywood.

Maybe no one told Haywood that going physical is a no-no.  Y'know, like the columbus players had not been told that selling their stuff, profiting thereby, is against the NCAA.  Y'know, like how the NCAA doesn't know that their rules shouldn't bend to coldcashslamjam.

Anyone know why all charges were dropped in Franklin County in the most recent Gary Trent incident?
