VanDelay follows MAC recruiting closely.  I think they've been unduly pessimistic about Ohio classes in the past, but nonetheless it's nice to see this class come in so high.  If I'm not mistaken this is by far the best ranking a Solich class has received from VanDelay.

I don't usually like to point out grammatical errors in posts, but on a somewhat professional website, it loses credibility.  The VanDelay link that focuses on recruiting http://www.vandelaysports.com/football/recruit/2011/teams... refers to a link for the Toldeo Blade and our local paper, the Atens News Manager (you guessed it, that's the Athens Messenger).

Also lists Eddie Price on his MAC Sleepers list. I think he means Eric.

Not sure they want to link a site that requires a subscription.

Have to admit I like his rankings this better than in the past.  I wonder how he got so much smarter in just one year!

OK, now Ohio has a top ranked recruiting class. I would like everyone to remember that these recruits need to be treated like any other class. Unless the athlete would be on the two deep, he needs to red shirt. I would like to see all but three red shirt. I would like to see this group tearing through a season as fifth year seniors. Ohio is winning now, but, the next level won't be attained by throwing in some good freshmen. It will take this class and another and another like it to really take the step from winning to winning bowls. Patience, has been rewarded. I am starting to think the coaches have brought the team to the brink. Now, if there are leaders who will take charge and make plays, everything will take care of it's self.

Good freshmen....maybe that's a waste....but if we have some great freshmen who are better than returnees then I say the future is now.  We're in a reloading phase .....we'll just reload with impact players and no one can be sure that all these players would stay intact as 5th year seniors anyway....we've seen the injuries and other unforeseen circumstances.  I'm not saying play them all.....but I see one or two who can impact our season next year....a positive impact.

I believe circumstances will usually require about three freshmen to play. The others will need the chance to adjust to this new level and spend a year getting bigger, stronger and faster. I do expect the curent jr/sr group who have been in that process for years to be able to hold off a true freshman.

With the unusually large size of this years class there is no reason not to think that 8 to 10 couldn't play right away. Redshirting is important but as their careers progress 3-4 each season are picking up medical redshirts. I don't think we are losing that much by having our best talent on the field right now if they may be medical redshiriting by junior year. The most important thing the program has to work on is attrition and losing all of those upperclass lineman probably cost the program a MAC Championship this season.

Unusual for 2011 will be the addition of Brazill, Keller, Moore, Prior, Kozak, Knight, Spivey, Blankenship and Denton. That is a lot of experience to plug in for the departing seniors. Now if the roster players managed to get bigger, stronger and faster too, this team should come out of the gate ready to execute like no Ohio team in recent memory. I am just hoping Brazill, Keller and Moore have been able to recover their form, preinjury.
