I know this is going to come back to bite OHIO and me in the rear end, but I was amused to read on yahoo in the article about Tressel-knew-months-earlier-than-he-let-on-about-the-players-sold-memorabilia-for-tatts that there is actually someone with this resposibility at columbus:

Ohio State director of compliance Doug Archie.

Maybe the guy or gal who holds this spot has to be retired from it at the time he or she holds it?!

Depending on the size of the school, how big the budget is, and how vulnerable you think you're school could be to violations, your compliance staff can range anywhere from 1 to 12 as much as I've seen. Sometimes you actually see this position lumped together with another position at certain smaller schools.

Maybe they have it but don't feel the need to use it?

Ohio State has one of the bigger ones. And JT claims "he didn't know who to go to" in this situation. Umm, maybe your compliance staff? Your AD? Your university president?

Ohio State also has the largest athletic department, sponsors the most teams (37) and the most athletes, so they should have the largest or one of the largest compliance offices.

As for the head coach having "no knowledge of"  no head coach has knowledge of violations, find me one who says, "yeah I knew it was going on".  That is whats wrong with college athletics, the Million dollar man gets a pass and the $40,000 a year guy gets the blame and fired.  One of the more ugly sides of College Athletics and happens way too often.

Totally agree with you there JCW. Dont be surprised one bit if one or even multiple people on staff get the pink slip for this one. If this gets as ugly as I think it will, heads will definitely roll, albeit ones that shouldn't.

They're probably lining up the very compliance officers Tressel never met in the Hayes Center right now.  The public wants somebody's head.  The NCAA will demand it.  Oh, and Gene Smith wants to get to the NCAA Selection Committee party.
