It is worth debating. Because it's a bush league move to ask a school that's fully committed to this conference to play in the east in some sports but the west in another for the appeasement of a partial member.

UMass can play in the West, or Temple can move. I'd be happier if Temple moved simply for the deliciousness of watching them try and fail to win that division too.

And I don't think there's particular value to either fan base on which division they play in. It's not as if driving distance is ever going to be a factor in them deciding to go for road games. Eight hours Philly to Athens. Nine hours Philly to Toledo. Big Fat Hairy Deal.

Bowling Green has been taking one for the team since the expansion to divisions. I don't care much for them, but they still deserve better than what they've been given the last 15 years.

Partial Membership means WE are letting THEM in our sandbox. And no matter how full of cat crap it is they need to understand that a full voice should only come with full membership.

Is Bowling Green really taking one for the team or would they rather be in the West for one or all sports? I'm guessing they don't really care too much which division they are in. If I'm wrong, then I'm with you. We shouldn't make BG accomodate a new member, but I really don't think think it's a big issue to them.

Also, heard the MAC commish on WKNR 850 Cleveland this afternoon. Only caught the last half of the interview. He said there would be many considerations for divisions, including travel and fairness, but the divisions when they are announced, probably in a month or so, will have reasons behind them. He sort of implied it wouldn't be a Big 10 sort of thing where teams are almost randomly selected.

Probably of more interest to most on here, they asked him if the addition of UMass could ever lead to the exclusion of any teams from the MAC. The commish unfortunately was very clear that no teams ever will be asked to leave the conference.

I give BG basketball three years -- max -- before they bolt the MAC.  Their $10 million basketball endowment is a game changer.  So what division they end up in probably doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot in terms of their total athletic program.  So we may have more than two "football only" schools before too long.

You folks remember that poster a few years ago that went by a name something like "OutofTheMACNow"? Well, I thought he was a nut case back then, now I'm thinking he was some sort of a prophet.  This UMass crap has just pushed me over the top.

Judging by the way the wind blows these days, I believe there's going to be seven divisions. That means seven division champions a year! That's going to give a jolt to seven fanbases AND the banner manufacturing industry! A strong banner making industry makes for a strong America.

The names of these divisions will be:
Everybody is Special
We're all Winners
Let's Have Fun
Doing A-OK
Feeling Fine
Leadership and Energy
Putting Our Best Foot Forward

There might be some trouble in deciding a champion, though in reality we are ALL champions!

FCS-AA football... Catch the excitement and share it with others so everyone can enjoy it!

I agree.  They are more pressure to downgrade athletics than we are.  Their president is not a believer in the power of athletics as a marketing/recruiting tool.  Furthermore, I am guessing if we felt the need for a BBall endowment, we would have landed one ourselves. That's one sport we don't have trouble interesting alumni in.

Ohio alumni are interested in hoops? I guess. Attendance numbers, ticket prices, and donation levels don't tend to bear that out either. Granted our numbers are good for the MAC but I don't even think they are in the top 100 of Division 1.

I'm not a betting man, OCF, but I'd take a piece of that action.

That last guy who bet me on this board -- I gave him 10-1 odds -- lost!

Actually, we just missed the top 100 in 2010 and attendance was higher this year, although official numbers across the nation have not been released by the NCAA. I'm almost 100 percent sure we'll make the top 100 this time. Our 5,599 average would have ranked in last year's top 100, and attendance supposedly was down this year across the nation. So I think we'll probably come in somewhere around 90. Doesn't sound that impressive, but it's in the same neighborhood as Colorado, Oregon State, Auburn, Ole Miss, Temple, Auburn and Stanford.
