I was looking for the 2011 version of Phil Steele's football preview and I came across interesting information as it pertains to returning letterman for next football season. Returning letterman is a good indication of the overall depth of a program. Ohio has 57 returing letterman for 2011 highest among MAC schools. That is 4th among non-BCS programs behind BYU (61), Boise State (58) and Air Force (58). Ohio's depth is about at its maximum for 2011. Any number over 50 indicates a built program while under 40 is an indicator of serious disarray in the program. Based on the numbers below it looks like Ohio's 2 toughest games are going to be at Buffalo and at CMU. Temple and Miami are both with 1st year coaches and visiting Peden Stadium midweek. Solich has an all time record of 3-1 against Temple and 5-1 against Miami so I feel pretty confident in those games.

Returning letterman for each opponent on the 2011 schedule

New Mexico St (45)
Marshall (46)
Rutgers (37)
Kent State (44)
Buffalo (50)
Ball State (53)
Akron (32)
CMU (42)
Temple (48)
Bowling Green (38)
Miami (51)

This is an indication of returning experience. I would be interested to see what the number of letters have been earned by the group.

Aha. You've found the other reason that I projected a very good season for 2011.

Fall should be a lot of fun.
