I need help with my psychology project at Ohio U.-Lancaster, so if anyone is willing to repond to this post thanks.

List your favorite college football team, which of course should be the Bobcats and answer the following question.

Does college football need a playoff?
Go Bobcats!!!!!!

Ohio Bobcats, and no.  It needs a more equitable revenue sharing plan for non-BCS AQ's.

Ohio.

College football already has a playoff, just in the wrong division.  FBS needs one.

O-H-I-O.

No.  It'll kill all the bowl games and give those outside the top twenty nothing to play for.  No one will care about teams which, as the season progresses, are out of the hunt for a slot in the playoff.  This is classic 'better hope you don't get what you wish for.'

OHIO State.

Yes, then when Ohio becomes completely irrelevant in the football world than we'll (OSU) get your name to use as we choose!

Go O H I O

Playoffs are for the "pro" football fan in each of you.

Bobcats.  Nobody but.

If by "need" you mean that a playoff is a necessity to survive, no.

But if by "need" you mean "should have" or "have to have in order to get people off their backs," then yes.  The BCS was supposed to settle all disputes about who's the national champion because the two or three major polls might not agree in a given year.  That hasn't happened, and it won't until it's all decided on the field and not by who the computer says can come to the party.  If you have more than one unbeaten team after all the bowls, there's still going to be a question.  But the bigs still get to play for the trophy while the Boises of the world get hind teet, unless they're invited to join the dark side like Utah and TCU.  Gonzaga and Butler have shown what can happen when really good non-Big 6 schools get a chance in b-ball; it's eventually going to spill over to football.

OHIO -- Yes, we need a playoff, but it needs to be a 16-team playoff with a guaranteed slot for each FBS conference champion.

Pataskala, I like your Grantland Rice quote, but I have another one that says much the same thing, perhaps in a slightly more theological way, that is my personal favorite:

"For When the One Great Scorer
comes to write against your name,
He writes – not that you Won or Lost
but How You Played the Game."

Back in the day, when I did a sports show on WOUB, I would sometimes end my broadcast with this quote.
