Should we extend Tim? If yes how many years?

I personally think we should wait and see how the next two years go.

I agree. He's won the right to play out the 4 year contract. If he wins the MAC next year with Kurtis extend him.

I like the fact that we are developing a coaching tree of sorts here at Ohio University and a specific identity too, love it or hate it. After the passing of Bill Hess, it seems like Ohio struggled to find an identity outside of making Playboy's worst Division I football team list every single year along with becoming the number one party school at times. With the exception of what Jim Grobe brought to the table, which was impressive, we have been blessed to have Solich and now Albin. Though he is not connected to Ohio itself, Joe Burrow's Dad is, and for that we Athenian born brothers and sisters will always be grateful. I also like the idea that we, as a MAC school, are more than just a springboard for up and coming coaches. I say that we give the man a lifetime contract, but only if he is able to arrange a Sammy Hagar concert at Peden Stadium.

Can anyone tell me what is the current contract situation for Coach Albin? It was a 4 year contract with an school opt out option after 2 years, correct?

Normally schools will extend before a lame duck year. So we can still wait another year before making any final extension decision, right?

My guess is right after the bowl game, and if we win, it'll be an even nicer enhancement.

Boals won an NCAA tournament game and where was his extension? His regime is also in year 4 not year 2.

There are like 5 threads on this topic already.

Extensions are for the papers.

He earned the right to finish out his four year deal.

I guess I have thought we might want to see how NIL/Transfer Portal thing evolves a little bit so in the future we know the type of coach to bring in to help in that environment. At the moment Ohio's class is 9th in the MAC at 140 points however that is still 22 points better than Marshall. Its the MAC that is moving up as a whole in part I think because of some of the facilities CMU, Miami and Buffalo have put in and also Big Ten recruiting more nationally, leaving more players in their backyard behind. The MAC is a logical place to consider geography wise for the Big Ten and half the ACC which is also improving with NIL due to large east coast markets. TA is going to have to step up is game IMO.

In the college football recruiting world contract extensions matter. Not too many coaches just play out their contracts. We do have to make a long term decision on Albin pretty soon in my opinion.

I wouldn't want him to enter year 4 on a 4 year deal, and I'm sure they won't, but otherwise an extension only harms the school offering it.

Extension for what exactly? For the papers? Like I said. To keep him from other offers? You think if Nebraska comes calling in 2023 he's gonna go.. 'oh guys sorry, I just got this extension.'

Absolutely not.

However, if we go 1-12 next season and we just extended him another 4 years... guess who is paying that 4 years?

And we're a school that just started a go fund me for NIL deals.

Can't take those risks.

Maybe wait until Albin beats a team with a winning record before we extend his contract, which still has 2 years to go...

Already accomplished. Buffalo finished the season 7-6. Extend it now! Will help with recruiting.

And better yet, beat Miami last year which had a winning record. And of course FCS Fordham this year who was probably better than several MAC teams.

TA extension should come after a successful 3rd season--not now. (top 3 in MAC East--no loss to a Duquesne and over all winning record gets an extension) Worried TA will bolt now if no extension--HaHa.

After ZIPS QB threw for a few miles the Bobcats faced ZERO teams with a quality/healthy QB. Folks on here complain of OHIO losing to Toledo with a 3rd stringer at the helm, well, the post Akron QB's OUr defense faced, other than perhaps BSU couldn't play over OUr 3rd stringer (Miami=unhealthy and still had two long drives that took less than a minute each against the Cat defense.) Jury is still hearing evidence.

Just wait till after next season results.

10 wins most by any MAC team this year, East Division Title and Bowl Win. Bobcats are back and now can hit the recruiting trail. Lots of good press this year with this turnaround year. Impressive winning a bowl game without Roark. Defense really improved. One of best seasons by an Ohio football team. Players love playing for this guy. You can see it.

My guess is that not only do they love Albin, but they love the guys they have the most contact with: the assistant coaches. Gotta do whatever we can to keep them.

TA has bonuses like that in his contract and he earned a lot of them this season.

TA is now 1-1 (.500) in post season games. Frank was what 5-10 (.333) counting the MACCs? A .500+ post season record is an A job at Ohio and why Frank's tenure wasn't exactly A level though any guy deserves a ton of respect for winning 100 football games at OU.

Even last year, when I was stupidly calling for Albin's firing, and I wasn't alone in this stupidity, I heard from numerous sources that the players really loved Albin. And, it was interesting that virtually everyone used the word "love", not "like" or some other word denoting a lesser level of affection. I think Frank knew what he was doing when he recommended Ablin for the position. I actually talked with Frank briefly in Detroit and thanked him for suggesting Albin as his successor. He beamed and said something to the effect that Tim was the man for the job.

What a difference a day makes. 24 little hours. Brought the sun and the flowers, where there used to be rain.

The longer the AD waits, the more this costs OU. Should’ve signed him to an extension when they won the 6th game. Albin made himself some money over the last two months.
