I have read through all the comments surrounding our bowl game and still have some questions/comments.

1) How are the invitations decided upon?
2) Do schools have a choice to accept or reject an invitation?
3) Is the payout listed per school or to be split between the 2 schools?
4) Are there other monies that the schools can have access to?

Comments: Our bowl game is the only one not on TV. I have read numerous comments on this issue. Most seem to point to the audience being skewed to a certain age group. I am just using common sense and common sense tells me that anyone looking to watch this game would expect it to be on TV. When they realize it's not on TV they will be confused and could think this game is not respected enough by the networks to be broadcasted.
Finally, I am at a real loss as to why we would have accepted this invite knowing the game is not broadcasted on a traditional TV network?

GO BOBCATS
There are certain bowls have conference connections to and each bowl has a committee that selects the team, ESPN also plays a part in it. Te only thing NCAA requires to get in invite is being .500 or above winning percentage and teams can only count 1 win vs FCS or lower competition to their bowl record. Army and Navy have to be bowl eligible before their matchup to get invited. School have a chose to accept an invite or decline it, if decline they won't get another one and will miss out on bowl games. Each bowl has a payout to the schools and that information can be found by doing some additional research. Most bowl games are 5-6 day trips which include community events, team activities and media sessions along with practice time at the bowl site. Each bowl is different. The bowls will work with the conference and teams to fill any additional needs or requests.

The only reason our game isn't on TV is that Barstool Sports in the title sponsor,Barstool has their own streaming service and app but the game can bee seen for free on their website, social channels and their app. Their coverage audience is more college student base.

I see OUr 2 Arizona QBs featured in a Barstool poster.

Will Navarro be available to play on the 30th?

Of course If they have the connection to the stream capability - and If they then actually connect and stream....
I've been trying to ask bars to put on streams since the advent of ESPN3 and its always a lost cause. The bartenders never know anything about college sports as they didn't go to college and hardly are aware of what's even in their sports TV package as far as the channel lineup goes.

So, you're saying that it will be tough to find a place where you can sit on a barstool and watch barstool sports? ;)

As far as "will viewership be up" or "will viewership be down" or "will the people find a way to watch who want to watch", and all the other questions, these seem pointless to debate at this point. We should probably save it for after the game, when we have viewship numbers, and everyone has experience with actually trying to connect (whether on a barstool or not).

In the meantime, Go Bobcats. Bobcats owe Wyoming, after having lost to them in 1-point games in 2007 (34-33 in Athens) and 2008 (21-20 in Wyoming). Crush Wyoming!

According to the Wyoming press release it'll be available through YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. Most sports bars should have access to at least one of these.

😂😀😀

It was great when we got cable and could watch the sports score ticker at the bottom of CNN just to see Ohio won or not. Didn’t have to wait until the paper arrived. Them good ole days.

Dang, I get the Dispatch delivered to my house everyday (except Saturday) and just a few weeks ago bought the new Bruce Springsteen CD. Yes, I realize I can get Disptach news online and that I can download music instead of purchasing a CD. Just a preference.

I get the local paper (The Record) delivered to my house everyday except Sat. also. In nice weather I enjoy sitting on my porch and reading my Sunday paper (our local paper doesn't print on Sat. anymore) drinking my coffee.

Tried doing that on my tablet, with the on line Sat paper.
But the glare is a killer.

I also prefer a "hard medium" for music.
And I still buy vinyl, whenever I can.

I can envision you walking bowlegged, in slippers and a ratty old robe, to the end of the driveway to pick up the paper, then turning and yelling, "Mandy, fix me a breakfast that will stick to my ribs!"

Close?

Vinyl is back in a big way! Vinyl has outsold CDs the past two years for the first time since the 80s. Even Walmart and Target carry some records.

Also shoutout Bruce Springsteen. Great album.

I’ll just listen to Russ and Rob and skip BroBowl: Who Bros Hardest, Brah Broadcast.

And I’m not a boomer. Just somebody old enough to not lose all his money in NFT’s and/or extra crafty exotic dancers.

When cassettes then CD's came out, my wife and I were called "technophobes" because we said we preferred vinyl, scratches and all.

Now we're "cool" again.
Only downside is how expensive vinyl has become.

Same thing, I have a much younger nephew, who is professional guitarist.
He dumped his solid state amplifier for one that uses tubes.

He says its a "truer" sound.

He also records his music "analog" because he says digital it too sterile.

I identify as a trainable Boomer.

Downloaded the Barstool app on my mancave TV yesterday. Piece of cake. Watched it for a bit to check the quality. Mesh working like a champ. Felt my IQ slipping, turned it off before it was too late. I'll tune back in on the 30th. This should be interesting.

This is hilarious...I was just talking to my wife how every time I ask my server if they can put on a particular game, they act like they've never operated a television before.

Barstool seems to be a shoddy outfit. They don't have any info on accessing it or the cost.
It’s streamed for free - on the internet, old sport.

“Nothings free, young whippersnapper!” You yell back shaking your fist.

It will be shown on a website. Just like how you got to BA.com.

Like I said in October, this is a GOOD thing. They’re already getting more eyes on Ohio Football than would’ve seen them otherwise. It’s not close. I don’t particularly like Dave, but their marketing prowess and reach can’t be denied. This is the future. Happy to be 1/1 in their world - vs 1/30 for ESPN.
I want to wait until I see the ratings before I crown this bowl a winner. Not sure we will even see the ratings? Does Barstool have to release those numbers?

While its 100% true that we will get more exposure ONLINE, I'm not sure this will translate to viewership of the actual event.

I don't see Ohio University as a hugely attractive program to the younger audience that Barstool tries to engage with. So this could ultimately backfire by cutting out a lot of old school viewers that make up Ohio's fanbase that just want to flip on ESPN2.

While streaming isn't that difficult to figure out, I guarantee folks won't even try to figure it out and will watch something else or just listen to Russ.

Personally, I don't really want to have to stream our bowl game. Do streaming devices even carry the Barstool app? If not then you will have to watch the game on a portable device and connect that device to a monitor in order to replicate the standard television broadcast.
"backfire" implies it was an active choice on our part. While I won't argue that we had NO input, I don't think we had the requisite agency for this to be said to have backfired
LOL that's what you chose to comment on? Ok thank you for your input...
Yes, that’s what i chose to comment on (and frankly it’s the only interesting comment among the sea of “that other generation sucks because ___” comments).

OHIO didn’t choose to be in a bowl that is streamed online. Our choice was “go to this bowl.”, unless someone has information that another bowl was beating down the MAC’s door to buy us out of this game into another one.

The MAC has numerous bowl tie-ins. I really don't know how which bowl end up with which teams. Are you saying that Ohio had no say at all in which bowl they ended up?

I have no idea about the MAC but Missouri specifically told the SEC that they didn't want to be put in the same bowl as Kansas this season.

Hats off to those of you ponying up and heading out. I have NEVER been to a bowl game...every time I look into travel costs around the holidays and end up just saying screw it because I just really struggle to get all that excited over it. When it follows a very disappointing MAC final, those emotions are only accelerated.

I don’t know—and am not saying (though i did imply that i a hyperbole)—that Ohio had NO input in what bowl we went to, but we didn’t have complete control either. Before the title game, there were numerous posts (here and elsewhere) to the effect of “MACCG winner goes to X bowl, loser to the Y bowl”, and rumors about teams already having accepted bowl offers.

Same. My wife, a prof at OU, and I have agreed that we would go to either the Myrtle Beach Bowl or Quick Lane Bowl the next (or first in the case of the former) time OU gets invited just to say "we've been to a Bowl Game." One of the problems for the average joe is the announcement is only a week or so before and you're already knee deep in holidaze spending.

I wonder if playing in the MACC actually limited our options. I imagine that the schools that were already done with their season were in active discussions with bowl committees while Ohio/Toledo had to wait to play their final game. I'm sure we were engaged with bowl reps but seems unlikely they could pull the trigger until after the MACC.

I have no idea but seems like a possibility.

Late to the party here, but skimming the 5 pages of posts, I didn't notice a prominent discussion about Barstool's behavior and words towards women.

Hopefully someone can educate me on the change of heart, mind, and actions that Barstool has undertaken and proven out. Otherwise... shame on the MAC and Ohio for associating themselves with Barstool.

I think the first article had mostly been debunked. I know ESPN was quick to cut the partnership regarding the second article.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
