WOW...I just saw the complete list of college coaching changes. 21 in total, 5 from The MAC.
5 out of the 13 schools. WOW.
There is definately something going on in The MAC to cause all these changes.
The MAC has certainly lost some of it's strength these past few years. No representation in polls, poor bowl performance etc. etc.
The last great QB graduated last year and there aren't any on the horizon. Without any great QB's there is less excitment as well as hype in the media.
I guess college Presidents want winning teams  as well as excellent records  and good bowl seating.
So now the coaching carousel has reached into Mid Majors, often thought of as the middle of the pack reporters.

[Just going from memory, so bear with me] 3 of those 5 MAC coaching changes (NIU, Fiami, Temple) were people leaving on success, hired away to bigger (i.e. more $$$$) conferences, so thats not a black mark on quality in the MAC on the field. It says something distressing about our ability to hold onto successful coaches, but thats nothing new.

Compare the MAC turnover rate to that of our smaller regional brethren, the B1G, and we're not that bad.

The 13 member MAC lost 2 coaches to abject failure and 3 others to lucrative opportunity.

The 12 member B1G lost 3 coaches to abject failure and 1 other to ethical terpitude.

I tried to do this with the Big East, but got lost in the question: If Doug Marone coaches in the Carrier Dome for three years and nobody is there to hear it, does he make a noise?

Difference is the guy in the Big10/12, makes 7 figures+ while the MAC guy makes mid to low 6 figures.

True, but the Big 10/12 guy may be gone in 2 years if he can't turn it around. The MAC guy almost always gets 4 years, if not more. With the high reward also comes substantially higher pressure.

2 years at 1.5 million = 3 million

4 years at 250k = 1 million

Not sure there is a good college coach out there that does not welcome that pressure and reward. Might this explain the seemingly higher rate of scandal going on at BCS schools?.

I believe Cubit and Solich are the longest tenured coaches in the MAC now.  Both coaches have reached the postseason and had players drafted in the NFL after playing in the MAC.  MAC has a lot of young coaches that are a good year or two from drawing attention from bigger schools.

Look at it this way...
Coach 1 works at MAC school for 2 years, jumps at stupid BCS job where you can't win, gets fired, then goes back to BCS school as position coach or maybe coordinator at midling program...
($250,000x2) + ($1.5m x 2) + ($250,000 x 6) = $5 million
Coach 2 (Pinkel, Grobe) works at a MAC school for five-plus years, then takes good BCS job with security...
Holy crap, Pinkel and Grobe made more than four million dollars just in the past few years.
Coach 3: Urban Meyer or Brian Kelly.
Really,, they all want to be Urban Meyer or Brian Kelly.

You are correct they all want to be Urban Meyer. And none of those guys think they are going to Indiana and are going to lose! Division I coaches are an extremely confident group. Take Grobe for example, do you think he left here for that down trodden program thinking he'd lose and get fired in two years?
