Admittedly, I stole this idea from Rick Reilly, but I think it's helpful for our new friends from Massachusetts. But I think it's also a good refresher for the rest of us MAC fans.

Akron has the best football stadium in the country? Seriously?
The immortal Frank Solich????  There's a reason why he's still at Ohio while the rest of the top of the MAC coaches move on.

Solich has done the whole "big time" football thing. I don't think he has any desire to go back to that. I have no doubt that if he wanted to leave, he could have landed a low-mid level BCS job a few years ago.

If you want to travel to Athens (Ohio not Greece), just be prepared to stay in West Virginia, because that's where all the civilization is.

What does this even mean? Court Street is all the civilization anyone needs.

At least Akron actually has a stadium...One you obviously haven't been to.

Yes there is...Outside of his age, it's called loyalty and purpose...

He was burned by big time college football before...why sign up for that again?  In Athens, he's in the midst of changing an athletic culture and his years of service will be felt long after he's hanging out on a beach somewhere.

I know it's tough to overcome your Temple "education" instincts, but please put a little effort into thinking before you speak.

Temple has a stadium too. I'll take it over Akron's thanks!

Passing out drunk in a car going the wrong way on a one way street doesn't help your career advancement either.

Like Pitt, USC, USF and others rent their stadiums.
But hey.. enjoy visiting the best stadium in the country when you are in Akron...

I'll be honest. I love Akron's football stadium. Even though its small, I would consider it one of the nicest stadium in division 1 football. I went there when OU beat the Zips 2 years ago and was amazed with what a good design they had.

As far as Temple, everybody will acknowledge that Lincoln Financial Field is amazing. The problem is that you guys have only 20,000 people in a 70,000 seat stadium so it looks like nobody is there. Thats why most people aren't talking highly of where Temple play.

Take a good look at Franks MOA, loyalty is first and foremost. Temple can't keep a decent coach very long.

Actually recruits are very attracted to playing at the Linc.  Yes attendance is a problem but you will see a difference this year.

Loyalty? So you are telling me he's turned down offers from  BCS schools?  I don't often hear is name come up in the carousel.

I'll lose a coach if it means winning. Unfortunately when your in a conference like the MAC.. no one wants to stay if they have an opportunity for bigger things.

So it must have really hurt when Al left for Miami, what with the lack of, well, meaningful wins of any sort, huh?

Let me add to your first point.  Actually, after having their dreams crushed by not being recruited by any major conferences, recruits are very attracted to playing at the Linc, because if they're going to play infront of empty seats; at least they will be playing infront of more empty seats than anyone else in the country.

Let's be honest, Temple is just another MAC team that is recruiting second tier players and can hold on to second tier coaches until they have a little bit of success and get a chance at a better job.  The reason Frank isn't leaving OU is because it was either retire or hide out in Athens where a .500 season will be considered successful and making it to a bowl game only to get blown out by Troy or Marshall is best thing OU has done in 50 years.

If I were you I would hold off on putting down the MAC until you're in the Big East putting up 2-8 seasons each year.  Until then you're just like every other team in the MAC...irrelevant.

Yeah, I read the whole thing with sarcasim in mind, and it made a lot more sense.

This guy doesn't indicate very well that he's being sarcastic. that kind of crap drives me insane.

The MAC is a crappy conference... admit it.. but its all we got and it allowed a team that was basically flatlining to come in and come back to life.  I appreciate that.

But it kills Temple attendance wise because no one knows or cares about the directional Michigans or random Ohio schools.
It hurts Temple basketball RPI wise to play bad basketball teams.

That's why we don't want to stay forever. Dont' take it personally.

WRONG.

You want us to believe that Temple football is a big draw but the MAC holds it down? Then show me the big attendance numbers when you were in the Big East. Here I'll help you out, from the NY Times, March 3rd, 2001-

Quote:expand_more
Attendance at Temple home games is still the lowest in the Big East, though it has improved to 18,612 last season from an average of 4,045 in 1995.

http://www.nytimes.com/2001/03/03/sports/plus-college-football-temple-voted-out-of-the-big-east.html

Last year Temple's average attendance vs. MAC teams was 18,048, but you only drew 18,702 for Big East champ UConn. What's up with that? Face it, there aren't 30K people in the Philly area just waiting for Temple to leave the MAC so they can start going to home games. They've never existed. YOU LIVE IN A FANTASY WORLD.

You're quoting attendance from one of the worst seasons in college football history? That's cool..

Put those crowds into your stadium and it would be nearly full!

We put more fannies in the seats playing an FCS team than you do for any big name team that comes to Athens.. oh wait..  NO ONE COMES TO ATHENS!

Wait, are you talking about that National Championship contending FCS team from the same city Temple's from? That FCS team? The one you lost to in 2009 and barely beat last year?

Suspiciously Villanova seems to care more about their showdown with UD than they do Temple. They must know that the game isn't even worth marketing.

Trust me there weren't 20 K Villanova fans there....don't know where you got your stats from.

Of course Nova would hype up Delaware...they play in the same division and conference!

Our big game is Penn State coming into town...who is coming to Athens? NO ONE!
