Honestly, what purpose does it serve to have this discussion? I'm quite sure if Jaime Oliver went to visit Athens county schools he would discover similar obesity problems and stubborn behavior. So why pick on Huntington?

Good point Paul. I dont know how this thread go so off topic. The truth of the matter is that obesity is a problem all over the country. Particularly in the South.

Back to the original topic....basically the article that written several days ago was way off base. The only player in this class that flat out wont make it is a Juco lineman named Colin Munroe. Everybody else is either already in class or enrolling in January. Just wanted to clear up the misconceptions.

You're right. My apologies to WAM. I'm sure you're very happy in Huntington. I have just harbored a dislike for Huntington for awhile. Like I mentioned my only experiences in Huntington have been poor ones.

Del, sorry to hear that you had some bad experiences in Huntington. That's dissapointing to hear. Thats not our nature here. I hope you try and come down next year to the game. If I can remember I'll invite you over to our tailgate. We have a good time and welcome anybody over.

Excuse me if I'm suspicious of numbers reported by the police department regarding the police department's effectiveness right when there is a debate going on about the imposition of an arugably unconstitutional tax on non-residents that supposedly will go to fund the same police department.

Way to go on that one. You've got some "proposed facilities". That certainly is some "theoretical" growth.

Ok, you got me on this one. Huntington is growing in (1) the selection of chicken wing eateries, and (2) call center jobs.

Neither of which is actually in Huntington. But, if you want to discuss the greater Huntington metropolitan area, I would suggest you go onto the Herald Dispatch, Ironton Tribune, or the Ashland Independent websites and run a search for "pill mill" or "pain clinic," then get back to me on your claim that crime is down.

Ok, I owe this board an apology. All I hear every day at work is Marshall Marshall Marshall, and this board is my Bobcat sanctuary, and then I see Marshall Marshall Marshall invading it, and I can't bite my tongue anymore. And in the course of doing so, I have caused the conversation to drift from the potentially greatest football season in the history of Bobcat-dom. For that, I am sorry, and I hope we can return to the regularly scheduled programming.

Go Bobcats.

I've only been to Huntington once.1997 when we played @ Marshall in that awesome 27-0 drubbing. The night before the game at least 2 separate bouncers would not let us into their POS trashy bars because we were wearing Ohio paraphernalia. One even tried to spit on my friend to keep us away. Between that and the minimum 5 fights the fat hillbilly toothless jobless bearded flannel wearing dirty jeans reeking locals tried to start with me as I walked down the street only because I was an Ohio fan was enough for me. And unless it was Rosanne Barr look alike night at the bars there are some serious obesity problems in H town. If I ever step foot in that hell hole again it will be too soon. Enjoy your Roosters. Thats all.

C Money, if you dont like Huntington and claim how bad it is then why do you choose to work in Huntington? If I was unhappy with my location of employment I would look somewhere else. You go on to say that all you hear at work is "Marshall, Marshall, Marshall".......well what did you expect working in "Huntington"?......LOL

I never said I don't like Huntington. It (or at least the metro area, since I am from Ohio) is my home, which is why I defend it when necessary. What I said was that your depiction of Huntington was a little too rosie. And I never said I didn't expect to hear Marshall Marshall Marshall at work...I said I am annoyed to see it on an Ohio Bobcat message board. Since you patrol our message board, I'm assuming (correct me if my assumption is incorrect) that you also visit Herd Nation. You know how Marshall fans react when WVU fans show up and talk about the Mountaineers over there? That's my reaction when Marshall fans show up and puff up the Herd over here.

I've spent a lot of time in Huntington over the years in Bobcat gear and I've never had the first problem.  I've always been treated well.

I guess "good" is relative.  When you're a native of Appalachia like I am, Huntington seems like a pretty decent place.

With Athens situated in the middle of Appalachian Ohio, it's hard to understand how we can look down on other Appalachians.

Yes, us hillbillies need to stick together.  Well, unless you're from the University of Southern Pennsylvania (aka WVU), and then we declare you are honorary "flatlanders"!   Seriously, as many of you know, I've got some Marshall roots.  Though they are not as deep as my Ohio roots, I have a very fond place in my heart for Huntington and dear olde Marshall.  I've worn Ohio gear in Huntington numerous times when Ohio has played there and I never once had the problems that some of you folks reference.  I've always been treated with respect by strangers there -- folks you didn't know anything about my Marshall connections -- and only saw my Ohio cap or jacket.

Count me in....the best history prof I ever had was at Ohio University Ironton.....needed a decent class and this guy was about 70.....and he was a Marshall prof......ranted and raved and smashed his cane on desks.....and told me stuff about American History that I could never imagine.

Doc, when was at Marshall (1970-74), I taught an extra class or two at the Ironton branch.  The classes were actually held in the high school building at that time.  I know the professor you're talking about.  He was quite legendary.  I'm having a senior moment right now and can't remember his name.  It'll come to me in the middle of the night probably.  Thanks for sticking up for us hillfolk.
