Is this the famous Veeck midget at bat stunt?  That guy was a real showman and all around crazy man.  I once read his autobigraphy -- "Veeck as in Wreck," which was very entertaining.

More from Arkley in this SB Nation blog:

This makes at least three years in a row where the Cats' primary QB sat out the previous year.  Theo missed nearly all of '08 but started '09 and led the Cats to the East title; Franshaw went down early in '09 but led the team to 8-5 last year.  Although Tyler has little game experience, he's spent two healthy years in the system, which should be a huge advantage.

My simpleton summation of the QB situation:  If Frank's happy, I'm happy.  He actually knows a lot more than I do about how to assess QB talent.  If he's made a decision this early it really means that Tettleton is very clearly the best QB of the bunch at this juncture.  It really gives me added confidence in the team this season to know that we were able to pick a starting QB so early.  I think Tyler is going to have a breakout season.  I trust Frank's judgement.

Frank has his reasons and like the above post says "If Frank's happy then I'm happy"!

OCF:

You are correct about this being a Bill Veeck promtion.  For my friends on this board who are "21 years or so old", Bill Veeck who had owned the Indians before purchasing the White Sox was the owner who promoted "Disco Demolition Night"!

That midget is Eddie Gaedel. For those that missed the news, Eddie's great nephew was drafted this year by the Padres.

For some reason all I can think of is Austen Everson part 2.   I just hope he can throw the ball with better zip and accuracy downfield because I'd hate to waste all of the talent we have at WR and TE this year.

That wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.  If he plays smart and minimizing mistakes like Austen did...I'll be happy.

I'm not sure how similar they are but I can see reasons for comparisons based on their build and how they run. However, I'm thinking Everson might have done better if he had a whole career in the same "program". Austen EVerson only had two years in Frank's program. Tettleton is already in his 3rd year, and is only a redshirt sophomore.

Yes and Frank's comments on Tettleton are to the effect that he needs a guy that can make the right reads when the coverages are switched up. Tettleton is excelling in reads and executing more consistently than Bates. Tettleton is the best overall option the staff has at this time. Going on 3 years in the system is great, 2 years is sufficient to see what a guy is made of and Snyder probably isn't going to be a great QB here at Ohio. I don't even think Tettleton is a great QB, he's the best option available. Its wait and see on Bell and Vick. At least the program is starting to move away from relying on transfers at the position.
