Looks like they're using their last-place prediction in the WAC as motivation (last half of the item):

And a look at their D:

It's true.

The Aggie DLine is banged up and now two LB's are out due to academics.

However, a freshman and a JUCO have stepped it up in fall practice so even though the Aggies are down, they're not out.

The key to the game for the Aggies will be, can the offense sustain long drives in hopes of keeping their defense off the field long enough to pull out a win?  The offense has shown a bit more spark in fall camp.  Granted, we're talking three practices.  Or is it because the defense is limping along?

Curious point...pun intended...the Vegas point spread started out at -12 for the Bobcats but since opening, it's now down to just -7.  Hmm...I wonder why?

I'll be stopping by more often as we approach game week.  Stop by CrimsonIllustrated.com and share your thoughts.

Not sure why the line would drop that much.

I'm betting that early action is gladly taking NMSU and the points. That would be the reason for a shift in the line. If I were a betting man, I take the Aggies and 12 as well.

Just 11 days until opening kickoff in Las Cruces, but I haven't been paying much attention to the line.  Is it still around ten?  I think that this game could be a lot closer than most think.  The Aggies are definitely coming in with a chip on their shoulder, and the cats struggled with Doug Martin teams in the past.  A good start is needed for the season.  I am looking to see if we can establish an upbeat tempo in the new offense, and build off that.  If that is established and we get off to a reasonable start to the game, i think that Solich would like to get either Snyder or Vick in there to run thh offense for a couple drives, to not only see what they can do, but give them some much needed experience.  Man, next saturday can't get here soon enough!

7.5. If that line sticks, I take us. If we don't win this one by 8 or more, this season is going to be much rougher than I anticipate.

I'd really like to see a dominant win, but I don't think a close call warrants panic. Solich teams traditionally start slow - at least on the offensive side. First year qb, new offense. 3000 mile journey into the heat. This one scares me the same way North Texas did a few years back and I wouldn't be shocked to see something as close.

This is arguably the worst team in FBS football.  A close game will be a real DANGER sign.  I'm expecting a "name your score" type of game.  Gardner-Webb would probably beat these guys.

I'm not getting over-confident.  North Tex was 1-11 the year before the Cats (coming off a 4-8 year) beat them 31-30 in 2OT.  And the year before the Cats (6-6 the year before) beat Loosiana Lafayette 31-23; LL went 3-9 that year.  I think the Cats will win, but it'll be close to the original spread -- something like 23-10.

Heat, extreme low humidity, time zone difference, long trip. No doubt OU is the better team but this game will come down to conditioning.

How many times have the Bobcats ever "named their score" in a football game? Not many. I can think of maybe two or three off the top of my head, but can't think of any season openers against 1A opponents.

I think that's probably a fair prediction. Jump out to an early 14-0 lead, play it conservative, and avoid injuries. I'd feel better with something more along the lines of 27-10, because I think that will show our run game can control the clock if necessary rather than getting bogged down and settling for FGs.

That being said, if the line were back to the original 12.5, I think I would take NMSU. 12.5 is a lot of points to give to a home team in a night game against a eastern team traveling west.

How's this for bad trivia: according to the online media guide from '09, OU has won only two season openers against Div. 1A nonconference opponents on the road ever.  In 1976 they won 49-27 at the Terd, the year before the Terd dropped to 1AA.  And in 1964 the Cats won at West Texas St (the same school they played in the Sun Bowl in 1961) 16-14.  (WTSU is now West Texas A&M, a D2 school.)  Since 1995, the Cats are 7-9 in season openers, but only 2-9 against 1A opponents and 0-9 against 1A nonconference opponents.  In the Solich era, the Cats are 0-2 in season openers vs. 1A opponents on the road (Northwestern & Wyoming).

Old stats about previous seasons do not apply in this current case.  Trust me, this won't be close.  We are essentially tuning up against what many consider the worst team in FBS football.  In a way it's refreshing that we have come so far under Solich that we are not one of those teams vying for "worst in the nation" designation.  There were years in the past when the team playing us in the opener would be wondering how long they'd have to keep their starters in and how much practice the third-team would get against us.  I'm glad that the shoe has now on the other foot.  Go OHIO!

I hope his assessment is correct too, but there is simply no precedent for this type of "behavior" from a Bobcat team in week 1.

Ah, what's a typo among friends and fellow Ohio fans? Sorry, what was I thinking? Actually with 26 tickets sold, we don't deserve to be a FCS school either.

There's also no precedent for this type of talent and depth on a Bobcat team in week 1...

Is there any large alumni base near Las Cruces? It's not like North Texas where Dallas is right there, or Wyoming where Denver is only a couple of hours away.

I figure we have alumni scattered everywhere, so 26 seems really low to me. And I fly to games so I thought other people might as well. Bad team, remote, whatever, 26 tickets is unbelievable.
