I could see rooting for Temple because they're a MAC team; on the other hand they're so obnoxious that I wouldn't blame anyone for rooting against them either.  For the record, I always root for the Redchickens when they play a non-conference team.

This game will be on ESPN3.com on Thursday as an exclusive:

Unless it involves Ohio, I love an FCS team beating up on the FBS. I laughed something fierce when GW beat Akron last year.

i don''t think we should judge a whole program by one or two vocal morons who only want to be the center of attention here and I don't see how the MAC profits if one of its higher profile teams loses to an FBS opponent.

If you want an upset, how about Kent or Akron this weekend.  Now that would be fun.

Very true. But an embarrassing defeat might keep said moron(s) quiet for a couple weeks, so go Nova!

I dont think a FCS win on Thur Night mutes JSF or Munny Slavin but if you want to squander your UC, go ahead and find a website that gives you Nova +5.5. If you ever read the Nova Board, you would know my remarks pale in comparison. Most Nova fans will tell you they would win a MAC Championship right now.

I think we all know Zippy doesn't stand a chance but the following week could be interesting...

Toledo's got a helluva team coming back and keep in mind O$U's historically stout kick coverage unit when reading below...    As usual, A&M Nation is already celebrating a Miami win...Go Rockets!

3. KR ERIC PAGE, TOLEDO
THE PARTICULARS: 5-10/180, Jr.; Springfield (Ohio) High
THE BUZZ: Page, one of the most productive wide receivers in the nation, finished third nationally in kickoff returns last season with an average of 31.1 yards on his 28 attempts, and he led the nation with three return TDs. He wasn't used as a kickoff returner until the final three games of his true freshman season in 2009, and he averaged 25.4 yards per return that season

Well, BC36, I still remember the joke in '08 after Toledo beat Michigan: "Did you hear they cancelled Michigan's game at Ohio State this year?"  "No, why?"  "Michigan couldn't get past Toledo!"

Temple will be down a couple of players for this game: http://temple-news.com/2011/08/29/former-football-starters-suspended-for-season-opener/

Chester Stewart was in contention to start at QB, so this week, it will be between only Mike Gerardi and Chris Coyer. Kee-ayre Griffin was a starter at cornerback last year for the Owls.

Distasteful fan posts notwithstanding, you gotta pull for the MAC teams.  Although my not so guilty pleasure is watching the redforeskinhawks take it tough no matter who they play.  Maybe Akron, too.

Watch what you wish for boys. A Temple victory tonite will probably catapult the Mighty Owls on a quick train out of the MAC. Perish the thought of what lie in store for the MAC IF we ever would lose the exceptional drawing power and prestige of the Owls.

I am rooting for the MAC team.  Also, I agree with BC36... Toledo will go to vanilla city and beat the Buckeyes.

I ALWAYS root for MAC schools in non-conference games.  Always have.  Having said that, 'Nova is a tough team, and they will give Temple all they can handle and more.  I strongly believe that Temple will be 2-0 heading into Happy Valley.

With you on all counts.

As for that 48-yard miss... Weller would've made it.

Edit: not sad to say I was wrong about the game -- Temple rolling so far.  Good to see they and Toledo treating FCS opponents as they ought to be.  CMU doing ok, not great against SCSU.

Ok may have been wrong on the Nova, giving Temple a game.  Adazzio and Co. have the team going. 28-0 lead at the half.

Except they don't go to Happy Valley.  As MuttonHead has noted more than a few times, PSU is goin' to Philly.  Of course, there will be 40,000+ wearing blue and maybe 20,000 in red at The Missing Linc that day.  Nevertheless, Temps will have at least one loss after that one.

20,000 in red? That's stretching it.

Good call, I completely forgot.  There will be a ton of blue at the Temple "home" game.

Do we play in an off campus NFL Stadium? Are we winless against MAC teams with winning records? Are We delusional?

You realize that was for two home crowds, right? When you get 60k for Penn State, do you think we're all going to be impressed by the sheer number of Temple fans? Please be serious.

I'm not trying to be smackish here, but you understand that your association with Lincoln Financial field is due to geography, right? You can get Penn State because you happen to be located near an NFL Stadium. Temple bragging about it is like the guy that's born on 3rd base and thinks he hit a triple.

That's actually really pathetic.

You would think each team could bring in at least 20k. Add the fact that you play in a city of 1.5 million in a tri-state area of over 6 million. Another 20k who aren't Temple or Nova fans who just might be interested in watching a rivalry football game would seem plausible out of that 6 million.

Given those facts I would have expected no less than 60k.

Last year, the announced attendance for Temps-Nova was 32,193.  Last night, the announced attendance at The Missing Linc was 32,368.  Either they've peaked (the '09 attendance was 27k) or they're just drawing numbers out of a hat.  Oh, I forgot -- both the Eagles and the Phils were out of town, so I guess there was too much competition from the Eagles fans who watched that big preseason matchup against the Jets on TV (the Phils played in the afternoon). Or maybe it was bingo night.  Anyway a lot of Temps (and Nova) alums just couldn't drive across town to see the Hooties.
