According to an article by Bret Schrotenboer of USA Today, there's
been a "mass exodus" of University of Colorado football players, into
the transfer portal.

The exodus has been facilitated by Dion Sanders.

The article quotes him as saying to his "inherited" players "We're going to
try to make you quit."

As of Monday, 16 players have jumped ship.

According to the article, Sanders brought in a bunch of transfer players
to "win now" and needed to make room.

If you google "bret schrotenboer usa today" the article is there.

I was listening to sports radio discussing this topic over the weekend. Some of these pundits are already putting Colorado and Deion in the national title game this season.
Instead, I think it's going to take a couple or 3 years, if ever, for Colorado to get back into the national discussion for top teams.

In the day of the transfer portal, you want to run off as many players as you can when you take over a bad program. back in the old days, you had to be selective due to the limits of new players. Today, it's a different era.

Not remotely surprised.

I'm guessing the talent level between one of the worst teams in FBS and the best team in the FCS isn't far off enough for Sanders to care much about alienating inherited players.

You're buying Deion the personality, not the coach, and this is what comes a long with it.

Kinda wild Lemonious-Craig is jumping ship though, 168 yards and two touchdowns in the spring game.

How different is any of this from what Harbaugh did at Michigan? I heard he was making 5th year players try out for their scholarships. We got a couple of good players out of that--Heitzman and I can't remember the defensive players name.

It's not! And you are correct, that is exactly what what Harbaugh did.

Relying solely on the transfer portal for talent is certainly a choice. Ask Texas State and Jake Spavital how that worked out.

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2930680-texas-state-i...

I've seen differing reports, but the number of players who have left Colorado since Sanders was hired is somewhere between 50-70 players.

Colorado was absolutely horrible last year and in the past several years. This was not an X and O issue, this is a severe talent issue. Dion was hired to win games, not massage players and parents feelings!!!! Just look at their scores, they weren't even in any games!

I don't think anyone is disputing that they needed a desperate change across the board. They were awful. And this is going to get worse before it gets better, especially with the September schedule they have and the top portion of the PAC 12 looking really solid this year.

But man that seems like A LOT of players.

Here in Colorado this is an exciting time for University of Colorado football. Sensitivity and "touchy feely" is out.

I think the real question is "are wins in?"

Yes, guaranteed they more than double the win total from last season!

That's a high bar. I'll predict they triple their win total from last season. Speaking about going out on a limb.

a much better way to make the team better is take the players you got and whip theri butts into good palying shape. it starts with an intensive yaer round weight training program. then re work the plays and practice to get the most out of palyers. of course recruit new and better talent but dont just throw the current players under the bus to do so.
