Rodney Harris did play some linebacker and free safety in high school.

Sometimes such a move works out really well. Back in 2005, Thad Turner was recruited at WR along with his QB, Brandon Jones. After a move to DB he ended up a starter at Ohio, and even had some time in the NFL with Arizona.

Add him to McCracken and Daxson at DT who have left at the same position.

Burton is listed as a DE. On my way too early depth chart, I had him behind Watkins and Hunter at RDE. It's his last year, and he no doubt wants to get some more time in his final year. I hope things work out well for him.

I guess I remembered Burton more in the 3 technique. Is Hunter your DE by default? This front seven heading into spring is real thin.

My way too early depth chart was just a simple compilation. I took various depth charts from last year, removed those players gone, and then moved everyone else up. The real depth chart will look different, for variety of reasons. While some positions are fairly clear, others are a complete mystery, and we'll just have to see what happens. Consider my effort not to be an actual depth chart, but more as a starting point, a list of what players might be available at various positions.

Burton did come in as a DT, but at some point moved to DE. He's listed on the roster at DE, and while the late season depth charts only listed the top 2 players at DE, some depth charts earlier in the year listed the DE position with 5 players, and him as 3rd string. With McCrory gone, it looks like the only for sure thing at DE is Vonnie Watkins. All that's left on the roster at DE is Bonner, Weaver, Hunter, and Patterson.

Hopefully we hit the portal for another DE. Depth is looking very thin at the moment.

I get it on Burton. Hate to see him leave regardless of position. The group as a whole has really taken a hit between transfer and graduation. Here’s to hoping a few of these young guys can become decent depth in the front seven. Plenty of questions there.

It would have been far, far worse without the players who are taking advantage of an extra Covid year. I think Torrie Cox would have been the only returning starter. Even then, those that got the extra year will all be gone next year, and the defense will have to rebuild again.

Nice interview with Coach Izzy. Some interesting nuggets in there. Status updates on all the QBs. Rickey Hunt sounds like the real deal. Also sounds like Aramoni Rhone is stepping up this spring and may be the 4th receiver?

I've always had high hopes for Rhone, especially after seeing Shane Hooks and his short time at OU. A lot of similarities between them.
