What do we know about replacing the Rutgers game that apparently Ohio begged off of? It seems like we are out of options. An 11 game season?

I've looked through this myself. If we want a buy game with a P5 team, from what I can tell, there are only two options: Miami (FL) and Baylor

Our open date in the first four weeks is 9/23. Miami is already scheduled to play at Temple that day. Bowling Green's non conference schedule is full but they are also open 9/23. We could conceivably schedule Miami on 9/30 or later and play BG on 9/23. We'd be visiting Florida twice in this scenario as the return with FAU is next season.

Baylor has one open spot left and is available 9/23. The Big 12 allows for only three non conference games. I don't know if they care about road games, but their other two games are also home: Texas State which I think is part of a 2/1 deal, and Utah which is a home/home. Scheduling Ohio would be a true buy game which I think they should afford considering we don't have many options.

Correct about the Texas State series. Texas State hosted in 2021 then returned to Baylor in 2022 and 2023. Looking at their past schedules it would be a little rare for them to not schedule an FCS opponent as their buy game.

So still no updates on the lack of a full schedule?

FBS future schedules has a list of who still needs an opponent. There are 12 of us out there in FBS currently in need.

https://fbschedules.com/fbs-college-football-teams-with-n... /

Baylor (likely FCS opponent)
Jacksonville St. (likely FCS opponent)
Louisiana
Miami Fl (likely FCS. They already have Fiami this year)
Ohio
Sam Houston (likely FCS)
San Diego St.
SMU (likely FCS)
Southern Miss (Alcorn St?)
Tulane (Nichols St?)

That leaves SDSU and ULL open for an FBS opponent. ULL however could use a 6th home game while SDSU already has 6 home games. A trip to San Diego would be nice for recruiting and an instant TV game on CBS Sports. A series with SMU would also fit the bill and good for recruiting.

I'd love to get San Diego State or SMU on a home/home basis, but you can't deny it'd be better for our wallet to be hosted for a buy game. Would either program be in position to do that?

They have a recent relationship with Louisiana, so that might be a fit.

Best option would still be a buy game st Miami or Baylor

If we can't swing that, next best would be a home/home with any of the G5 teams with the stipulation that the 2023 game is played in Athens and kick the return game down to 2027 or beyond. If there's no buy payout, cut your budget losses by getting another home game gate. Realistically, the most likely team to say yes to that might be San Diego State. I just see everyone else on that list as more in need of a 2023 home game than the Aztecs.

How cool would it be to have a seven game home slate that includes Iowa State and SDSU?

Nope, but Hocking College was ranked #4 in the nation last year.

Would that mean our NY affiliated Bobcats fan on here will demand the rivalry series be home and home?

If the PAC-12 rumors are true, maybe the SDSU game could be a buy game by 2027. (sarcasm font highly emphasized on the maybe)

Cross Miami off that list. Looks like the only realistic options left are Louisiana and San Diego St.

I'd love to know the thinking behind backing out of this rutgers game without a ready replacement opponent.

Jacksonville State is out. They have added ETSU and are now full.

I didn't realize that San Diego State probably wants to fill 9/2, which is when we're scheduled to play LIU.

So it happens that august 26 is on average the warmest day of the year in San Diego-77 degrees. I’ll take it.
