The competition may not have been excellent, but the Ohio defense was top-notch this evening. Just a few notes on how well they did:
They caught as many balls from GW's QB as the receivers did. The GW QB was 3-17 with 3 picks.
The defense almost held their opponents under 100 yards (105)
The GW QB threw for 12! yards all game
Ohio DB's accounted for 72 interception return yards, or 6 times more yards than GW receivers
Ohio's defense alone outscored GW in the game, 7-3.
In two games, Ohio's defense has been run on 62 times...for 99 yards. That is under 1.6 yards per carry.
The longest drive all night by Gardner Webb was 23 yards, which ended in an interception returned 17 yards.
In the 2nd quarter, where the game was decided, the GW QB was 1-9 with 3 INT's.

But this was against one of the worst offenses I've seen in years.

Both true: great stats, but yesterday's oppo probably wasn't that good. But the core is there for a good defense. I think that we have a handful of guys who at least get pro tryouts plus we've played a lot of back-ups with no particular diminishment of effectiveness. So far, so good.
