thanks for the info on the flyer program. I didn't know those facts about it. I am going to that game in the early afternoon tomorrow before coming to athens.

Uhhh...well, first, GW is not Division II...they are Division I FCS, formerly known as I-AA.

Dayton is in a specialized class called Div. I non-scholarship.  Those teams never play Div. I scholarship teams.

Right...Dayton competes in the Pioneer Football League, which is entirely non-scholarship. Fellow non-scholly leagues are the Ivy and Patriot League. Northeast Conference used to be, but they went scholarship a few years ago. Even without scholarships, schools like Dayton can be VERY competitive. If I'm not mistaken, Dayton has been in the FCS Top 25 several times recently.

Once again, our refusal to use a power running attack (big back and/or going under center) at the opposition's goal line costs us.

First and goal at about their six and our first play is a run?

We are undisciplined--penalties--and lack stars.  We are deeper than last year so we can get by today with such as not having Keller.  Our offensive line has not played great yet this year.  No one dominating.  To me, we gotta play Boykin so we can establish the power running game so we can open up the field.  I don't see crisp or excellent execution.  Thought we'd be better than this.

We should all know by now that Frank is not going to show much in this game. Now that we are up 24-0 we are going very vanilla for the 2nd half. I would think we will be subbing a lot. The only position I am not sure if we will sub is at QB since Tyler is in only his 2nd game.

Agree that we'll lock down now that it's 24-0.  But 0-0 at the end of the first quarter--not good enough.  I only hope that we're holding back and will BRING IT against stupd cow.

There's been a few downfield throws today, but in general it looks like we are an option team again.....ugh.  I really wish we could run Toledo's offense.

Those may be G-W's back-ups, but Snyder!  We do have depth...linemen, receivers.  Snyder's shifty and strong here.

In games like this, it's hard to tell where the team is.  The offensive 1s went out midway through the 3rd; the defensive 1s were gone midway through the 4th.  Donte looked sharp -- 94 yards rushing; Tettleton 2 TDs and no INTs, the D was aggressive.  BUT, too many fumbles; too sloppy in the first quarter.  If they start that lethargic next week, Terd may get three TDs in the first quarter.  I liked Snyder's speed and the toughness that both he and Bates showed; instead of jumping aside for defenders, they lowered their shoulders and had at it. All in all, the Cats played well enough to win.  The Cats can feel good about this one tonight, then start getting ready for the Terd tomorrow.

Lonnie wrote a great recap of the game and added a great photo gallery at the end of the article:

Some really good photos there, including one of the Dunlop TD.  The replay officials could have used Lonnie's photo to verify that great TD catch!

Thanks again Lonnie!

Not to pick nits, but saying that Dayton or say, Harvard, is non-scholarship is technically accurate, but not entirely honest.

They don't give out ATHLETIC scholarships, per se, but athletes are regularly provided with ACADEMIC scholarships and financial aid, that results in many of them attending school at no cost.

And these ACADEMIC scholarships can be for some pretty esoteric reasons that look an awful lot like "tailor made for this particular student".

I'm not complaining about it; I think it's great.  I think it's an excellent way to deal with Title IX nonsense, and school at no cost looks the same either way to the student athlete.

I was at the Dayton game yesterday and the truth is they and their opponents looked like glorified d3 teams. I have watched d2 and d3  games that had more athletic quality then I saw on display at welcome stadium. I doubt if either the flyers or the dukes could defeat Mt. Union or Ohio Northern. Dayton placekicking was terrible. I have seen many d3 programs much better in that area of the game.

Contrary to what I posted earlier, I noticed in the box scores that a couple of non-scholarship Div. I teams played against FCS (I-AA) teams yesterday; predictably, they were defeated pretty soundly.
