The games are being played at approximately the same time.  Wonder how this may reduce our attendance?

Any student or other fan who stays home or in a bar to watch O$U-Miami(FL) is someone I don't care if I ever see in Peden again.

You probably won't.....those people only root for OSU and have no desire to watch Ohio football.

More than anything else, I'm bothered by Ohio students supporting OSU, and wearing their logo on game day. There should be an orientation program for freshmen that makes it clear that this is not acceptable on the Athens or any of our branch campuses. First of all, they should be ashamed of OSU and their whole program.  You are paying a lot of money to be an Ohio student - so be a BOBCAT!

As much as I agree with you that students should support their school more than any other we all know that might never be the case at OHIO.  Its the unfortunate side effect in being located in a football mad state that has forever associated itself with tOSU.  I bet if you did a study of people that enjoy watching football and are native Ohioans you would find around 66% see themselves as tOSU fans since birth.  It is really hard to get someone to change their allegiance from a team they (and probably their whole family) have been rooting for as long as they can remember.  Out of all my friends from Rowdy Ryors of my freshman year I would sadly say only a handful of us ended up choosing OHIO over our former favorite team.

So you can book it right now that the bars will be decently packed, there will be quite a bit of red on campus and the student section won't be looking as full as it did last week.

Although I've no affinity for the OSU football program, I can't agree with your proposal.  One of my  grandnephews played for the Buckeyes and just graduated in June.  A fine young man, in my view.  That he had friends and a first cousin - another of my grandnephews who just graduated in June from OU - at Ohio who might have chosen to wear OSU apparel doesn't disturb me.

Encouraging Ohio students to wear green and white seems a worthy topic for orientation.  But discouraging them from wearing OSU colors?  Not so appropriate.

How quickly we appear to have forgotten that this was done just last year, to wide approval on this board.

I have a friend who worked the Bobcat Student Orientation (formerly Pre-College) for a few years and he always encouraged people to shed their OSU gear (or Akron, Miami, Kent State, etc.) and trade it in for some OHIO gear.

I also know that the administration really pushes the OHIO pride angle at orientation. In one instance an administrator gave an incoming student a free OHIO shirt in exchange for removing the OSU jersey that he was wearing. It was done in a fun way and not maliciously. I think this is a great way to get the idea in people's heads from the get go that we take our school spirit seriously!

What's funny is that most of them see nothing wrong with it.

In their minds we are on a lower tier of athletics and we will never or should never be spoken in the same breath as OSU.

One really good thing the University does at Orientation is to do sign-ups for the OZONE.  You'll find that in the football OZONE there are a lot of freshmen wearing their new OZONE t-shirts.  Basically try to get them hooked before the general student apathy and party atmosphere steals them away.  Though it was slightly more awesome my freshman year due to the one-year trial of the credit card tickets.

The O Zone does that of their own initiative.

How's this:  any student who wears OU gear (not just something green) on each home game day gets 1/4 point added to their GPA for the fall.  They'd have to check in somewhere (maybe Peden) and have their ID scanned or whatever.  Games played after exams start are excluded.

With the grade inflation at OU and around the country, we'd have kids graduating with a 6.0.

How about this: Every student who turns in another Ohio D1 university's shirt (or jersey) will recieve a Bobcat shirt in return. Take all of the clothing turned in and use in a bonfire the night before the Fiami game as part of a big pep rally.

Two problems with my idea...

1. Giving away the shirts could be costly.

2. The clothing should really be given to charity, but the pep rally idea was different.

I have a better idea. How about giving students a discount on an authentic Ohio Bobcat football jersey?
Oh wait, there is no such thing .
