I'm not worried about how the Cats won today; Kent always plays tough in Peden, so an ugly win doesn't bother me (although kick protection needs a lot of work).

However, the injuries that piled up are another thing.  Too many key defensive players went down and Tettleton's injury is bothersome.  When he went out of the game for good, it didn't look like he was touched; plus they called it a calf injury.  Fortunately, Buffalo next week shouldn't be that tough, so maybe the replacements will have a chance to settle in.

Ugly win, as expected with the bad weather.  The small crowd was a bad first sign of how this game was going to go.  4-1 looks good, but means nothing.  We found out the past 2 weeks that this team is human and won't be "Nitro" on offense every week.  Lucky enough, this Kent State team could do nothing on offense and we did enough to get the victory.  Good coaching by Solich and clock management to make sure we didn't blow this one...

I think with a thin defensive line, many teams are going to come running at us more and that will be a problem.  Do we see playing time from any of the freshman (Bennett, Crutcher, Buehner)?  This team has depth and talent from many of the freshman, like DB Larenzo Fisher who are ready to play at this level.  I would normally be very discouraged by losing two major pieces of our defense, but I'm positive we have more depth than past Ohio teams.  Octavius, Shaw, and Fisher are all capable of filling in nicely.

Against Buffalo, I think it's very important to get Phil Bates more involved. He is a play-maker that keeps opposing defenses on their toes.  Need more Phil Bates!!

There's going to be a lot of big ?'s with injuries going into the Buffalo game.  Hopefully, guys like Hughes, Tettleton, and Shaw were just dinged up a little and will be back next week.  The week 9 bye could not come sooner!

Oh and how about Nathan Carpenter.  He is going to be fun to watch for these next four years!

This may have been a classic case of winning the battle but losing the war.

4 & 1 means nothing? The D had nothing to do with Kent not being able to generate any O either I suppose. I don't think a lot of folks understand what Coach Solich has put together. This is a team with depth and a team that rallies around one another. Have a little faith...
