Been trying to come up with reasons to get fired up about next week's game (other than to go to 5-1).  It's hard to get worked up about this year's Buffalo team -- they've yet to beat a 1A school; they don't have the history that Kent has with OU; and it's been awhile since they beat us.  This one is more a "don't get your foot caught in a hole" game -- can't overlook them.

So I went back to '09 to recall that game.  The Cats came into Buffalo at 6-3, 4-1 and the Bulls were on their way to a 5-7, 3-5 year.  But the Cats had had two lackluster performances coming into the game, the 20-11 loss to Kent and a 20-17 win at BSU.  So they weren't at their sharpest.  The Cats rolled up a 21-7 lead early in the second quarter, but Buffalo scored a TD just before half.  After a Matt Weller FG made it 24-14 (set up by a Marcellis Williamson fumble recovery), Buffalo tied it on a 3rd quarter TD and a 4th quarter FG.  Weller kicked a 47-yard FG with 1:25 to go, but it took a Shannon Ballard INT at the OU 23 to seal the deal, 27-24.  Buffalo had more 6 more first downs than OU, plus more rushing yards and more passing yards.  The Cats also fumbled four times, fortunately losing only one.

This not a team to overlook.  They were close vs. Pitt into the 4th quarter; they lost by only 3 at BSU; and they were down to UConn by only a TD until the final minutes.  The Cats need to be ready.

Goodness.  Should've just gone to the '08 shellacking in absolutely miserable weather.  All the motivation I'll ever need to get up for (what is) Buffalo (sucks).

My bad memory of Buffalo was the last and only time I've been there, in 2003. Of course, the Bobcats weren't very good that year, but they did have two wins and Buffalo had not won a game in 20-something games. Ohio went up 14-0 early (2 TDs, 2 missed extra points and a safety). Buffalo scored 16 points in the fourth quarter and won 26-17. It was rainy and cold (worse than this past weekend) and it was embarassing. I hope for something much different went I go to Buffalo this time!

The impressive part was I managed to have a more miserable experience in '09.

2001.  Brian Knorr.  44-0 Buffalo.  I hope the film was burned.

Not to dwell, but that game was remarkable for three things, if memory serves:  Beefs had the longest losing streak in D1--with (1) it's last win being against us...then book-ended their streak, so to speak with that (2) 44-0 game...which was when most of you slow-pokey pokes finally got the msg that, unfortunately, a change was needed (3) at the top.

Wasn't that when you turned "Knorr" into a verb?

Jeff, I was going to post the same thing before I saw your post.  That's my recollection, too, despite our Certified Pigskin Analyst's thought that he came up with this earlier.  I remember a post by him, which I think was after the Beefs' disaster, that showed multiple examples of how to use the new English verb Knorr in various contexts.  Too bad the archives were lost.

Was the Northeastern debacle before or after the Buffalo debacle?  I think it was before, so I'm voting for "Knorred" having been coined earlier than the Beefs game.

The summer heading into Knorr's first year, my boys participated in Tim O'Shea's summer b-ball camp.  Football players were checking kids in to their door rooms, and I remember asking a lineman how he felt they would do in the first season under the new coach.  He assured me they would win 10 games "at a minimum."

Pretty sure Northeastern was after, b/c I was a freshman in 2001, and I remember being at the Northeastern game thinking "yeah, we were bad last year, but no way we lose to a 1-AA team."

UB's 44-0 game was in 2001.

Northeastern was in 2002.   In 2002, we beat UB 34-32 (game winning FG by Kevin Kerr) which was one of our 4 wins that year.

In classic Knorr fashion, we took the momentum from that game winning FG to Bowling Green the next week were we lost 72-21 on the scoreboard, and what seemed like our entire starting O Line.
