Does anyone know where I can find rooms for this weekend.   I've tried all the Athens hotels and such.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

....meaning you've tried all the Athens hotels, and they're all booked full??  Because I find that sort of hard to believe.

I can currently think of 8 different hotels in the immediate Athens area off the top of my head.  I'd be extremely surprised if all were fully booked for this weekend. I just googled "athens ohio hotels" and clicked on the first link for a list of choices.

Two years ago, the Athens hotels were booked a month-and-a-half out from HC! I was surprised this year that I got a room less than a month out.

Haha, wow!  Never mind then...I had no idea it needed to be done so far in advance. I guess I've never lived away from the area, so I've never had to deal w/ the issue.

I would have been shocked if any rooms were available....even 2 months ago.

I checked this out as well 2 weeks ago when I tried to get a room at the OU Inn for Homcoming...booked as stated already.

What I was able to do though...was, I booked a room at the OU Inn for the Wed night Temple game 11/2/11 two weeks ago and I was shocked (pleasantly of course) I was able to get my AAA discount for the night.

I wasnt thinking that the hotel would be sold out, but I would have thought that there wouldnt be any discounts available.

Either way, I am going to try to make the 2 1/2 hour drive down to Athens from Dayton this Saturday, but if I cant,  I am eagerly awaiting the game 11/2/11!!!!

Valuables would be the least of your concerns...

Get on the waiting list at the OU Inn - rooms open up as people's plans change. Call the others a couple times a day this week, again people cancel and it becomes a timing thing. I got a room at the Hampton for the weekend just this past Friday that way.

You would be amazed at the supply/demand for the handful of weekends like homecoming and graduation when the campus gets really packed.  Grad weekend is booked solid at any place in the greater Athens area (well, I didn't check the Sunset -- the Post article a year or two ago about the corpse they found in a room was a bit of a turn off) already and has been for a couple months.  While I haven't tried to get a room for Homecoming, I'd guess demand is similar.

There are a lot of cabins and bed & breakfast places in the area.   Holiday Inn Express in Logan is right off the highway.

And rooms are going to get tighter with Burr Oak Lodge closing and the Hocking Inn being offline for mold treatment.  I believe rooms at the OU Inn and Hampton Inn go on sale 6 months in advance of HC and graduation and generally are sold out in less than a day.

Might want to check out the Red Roof, Comfort Inn or Days Inn in Jackson.  A 45 minute drive to Athens.

I'm not sure which direction you are coming in from, but you might try Parkersburg.  It's a shorter drive to Athens than Logan (plus no Nelsonville).  There are several nice places to stay in Parkersburg and Vienna and I'm pretty sure OU''s homecoming does not cause a shortage of rooms here.  The only thing that stinks is the drive back after a night on Court St., but that is the same with any hotel outside Athens city limits.

You may put on a good tailgate but I think you may be a bit geographically challenged here - Logan is 12 miles closer than Parkersburg.  I'll bring you a map on Saturday.

I should have said less time.  It takes me 32 minutes from my house to Tailgreat/Convo.  There is no way to make it from Logan to campus that quickly unless it's 2:00 in the morning.  Our bypass/four lane highway was just done first.

This is where the zoning board of appeals makes their money...

Just do what the rest of us do and get a "regret' room at 2:30 am. Less likely to get the itch than at the Sunset.

I'll admit that has corruption, nepotism, conflict of interest and small town hijinks written all over it.  Good call Love!

I'm not sure I follow. Are you guys implying that the current hotels in the area are paying off the zoning board to keep new businesses out?

We stayed at the Blennerhassett in Parkersburg WV one weekend that everything in Athens was booked.  It was a very reasonable rate (less than $100) for a very nice historic hotel.

Nahhh...just chalk this up to another lame attempt at humor by the Love.  I serve on the Board of Zoning Appeals here in Jackson.  Thus, the reference...purely tongue in cheek.
