Ohio is ranked No. 31, two spots behind Rutgers, in the CBS Sports.com top 120. Western Michigan is 41st and Ball State 53rd, ahead of Toledo and Temple. Not sure what criteria they have for this.

I think the method they are using is the ultra-scientific "blindfolded dart-thrower" method.

Although I wish this were true, and I love seeing us 30 spots above tOSU, if you go to the Ohio team page on CBS, they have us in the 90's (which is equally ridiculous!). I noticed all the other teams I clicked on had something much different listed on the team page.  .
EDIT: I should not have said equally ridiculous, having us at 31 is much more accurate than at 92!!!

This poll is making its way around facebook and there are some seriously pissed of OSU fans. I've seen some very strong reactions.

On a related not I saw a girl, who is an OU student, post it to her profile with the status "WHAAAA? OU OH YEAH!'

This would seem to indicate that she wasn't aware of our success so far this season. Might be some good publicity and way to get students more excited about OUr team.

I've been attending OHIO games since 1986, it is just so nice to see us mentioned in the upper half of a poll that is not called the worst teams in football.  I do not care how accurate the polls are, we are mentioned, weare rated highly and it seems people know who we are.  This is good!!!!

The most frustrating part about this is the fact that we have had this opportunity numerous times in the Solich era. And then an inexplicable loss occurs and erases any hope for the foreseeable future. I can't be the only one who is bothered by this.

GoCats.  I am never frustrated by the result of an athletic contest with so many factors involved in the outcome.  Ohio is contending and will be a factor in the MAC title.  I have not seen "inexplicable losses" and why would you ever lose all hope for the foreseeable future.  If undefeated seasons are your expectations, you are going to be frustrated a lot. Temper your expectations.  Since coach Solich has been at Ohio the roster has steadily improved and though we still don't field the most highly recruited players the wins are better and the losses are better too.  Bothered, no, without hope, only if coach Solich and his staff were to get an offer they could not refuse.

The Bulls hadn't beaten a I-A team in over a year, and that includes losses to Akron and EMU.  Losing to Buffalo, given the widely held belief that our program has finally "arrived," is therefore inexplicable.  Of course, you weren't there, so your claim that you haven't "seen" an inexplicable loss still stands, I suppose.

The Bulls jumped out early on Ohio up 21-7 and the team battled back to take a 31-24 lead over Buffalo in the third quarter. Buffalo played a near flawless game which is what they needed to win against Ohio. I wasn't there but from watching on TV Ohio brought its C game and in the end it just wasn't enough. Keep in mind its not as much who you can lose to but who the team is capable of beating. Think basketball here, Notre Dame goes 22-10 in the Big East and gets into the NCAA's because of a win over UConn or Syracuse. Since ND is capable of knocking off a top team that is much more important than dropping a game to Providence in the eyes of the selection committee. Based on the history of Ohio knocking around Temple, Miami, Northern Illinois ect, some of the top teams in the MAC, the team is more than capable of winning the division.

Buffalo's coach last year was also a 1st year guy. Normally a program shows improvement from year 1 to year 2 so they're probably not as bad as the 2010 edition.

Bcat2, I agree that undefeated seasons are not a reasonable expectation. As we see every year, the MAC is a conference with significant parity. I am a huge Solich supporter and have great respect for what he has brought to Ohio. As a fan, and just like everyone else on this forum (with the exception of MH55), I just want to see Ohio get over that hump and do some of the things that were discussed when Solich was hired such as gaining a Top 25 ranking, winning a MAC championship, a bowl game, etc.

As an added note, I do live in Columbus, so in this 2011 season a Bobcat win almost assures a week where the Columbus Dispatch does not rake us over the coals. Instead, at the very least, they throw us an underhanded compliment.
