Anybody else see this?  I guess they are just waiting for Missou to make the formal announcement that they are going to the SEC.  And, they ONLY have to pay $5 mil.  What a deal!

Stick a fork in the BigEast, it's history. WVU leaving, UConn and Rutgers have their pants down and legs spread "begging" for someone, anyone to pick them so they can get out of "Dumpster Fire Lite". I'm not sure who MH55's mighty Owls will be left to "dominate" in the BigEast since they seem to be hell-bent to get in as the one's in seem to be hell-bent to get out.

I saw there's another thread inquiring about the whereabouts of that sage of football sages, MH55. My guess is he's in the Temple library looking up the definition of "Imminent".

So, why doesn't the MAC jump in and at least make an attempt?  Certainly UCONN and Rutgers for football only along with Temple, UMASS and Buffalo almost gets to a nice "East" Division.  Not sure where USF, Cincy and Louisville play out in this.  The last two are top bballers but with no longevity at the BCS level in football so nobody seems to want them.  God only knows what USF is thinking and where they stand...

I guess this ends the dream of Ohio ever sharing a football conference with West Virginia if that ever had a chance. If the Big Ten is out because of Ohio State and Big East out because of UC where does this leave the Bobcats? Are we automatically ruled out because of a small 25,000 seat stadium?

News Flash for MH55...I doubt Boise stays in that neighborhood long.  The rest of the schools mentioned are only a bit better than the MAC!  You really think the Big Boys would give that group a BCS bid?  If so, what are you smoking?

Just a quick note on what some friendly tailgaters at Rutgers said as we were leaving to go into the stadium: "See you in the MAC Championship game in three years."  This was after they had invited us into their tailgate party and plied us with food and drink.  They were a very friendly group and obviously said this with a degree of sarcasm, but on the other hand they were very concerned about Rutgers' football future.

I don't think UC has anywhere to go. Rutgers and UCONN could be options for the ACC.

I would like to continue our series. Perhaps a 3-1 deal? After all, we'll be BCS

The best way to contain a rowdy Mountaineer fanbase to West Virginia; exile them to the Big XII.

The Big East is supposedly offering memberbership to 7 new schools. Temple might be one depending on who else turns them down. Guesses below.

1. UCF
2. Boise State
3. Houston
4. SMU
5. Air Force
6. Army
7. Navy
___________

8. Memphis
9. Temple

With WVU gone, Marshall might be in the mix, if they were interested.  I'm not sure, given today's developments, that the BE is even going to last at all as a football conference.

Marshall's academics would make the Big East scream bloody murder.

While their journalism program is not on par with our own, I once taught there so it has got to be damn good!

Also, the MU medical school has become quite good.   Huntington now has a Comprehensive Cancer Center due to a mega gift they received a few years ago and the hiring of some really outstanding oncologists and research scientists.  That's a major feather in Marshall's cap academically.  Within the next decade, the CCC at Marshall will probably receive federal designation from the National Cancer Institute.

A couple good departments does not make a good school. Marshall isn't even up to the MAC par institutionally and was booted mostly for that reason.

The Med School definitely has a good reputation locally, but there are some accreditation issues swirling right now. It's been placed on probation.

Those who continue to cast aspersions on Marshall's academics...how about some documentation?  The school does a good job of serving it's region.  It's a regional university, not a national research institution.  They shouldn't be penalized for who they are.

I don't understand the love for Navy and Army by the Big East.  At all.

Man, Uconn has to be steaming that Boston College and its crappy football program is stopping Uconn from joining the ACC.

Two thoughts:
(1) I think the conventional wisdom is that the Big East is probably like the B1G and looking more for research institutions than regional universities (although, at this point, maybe they're just looking for warm bodies with a little bit of a pedigree and 35,000+ seats in a stadium). Marshall could have a top 5 program and wouldn't get a sniff of the B1G for that reason. So if the Big East thinks along similar lines, Marshall has to make a pretty compelling case to get an invite.
(2) Former Ohio Provost/current Marshall President Stephen Kopp has been pushing Marshall towards becoming more of a research institution and has taken a lot of (I think undeserved) flack for it. If the Big East does want research institutions, this internal battle at Marshall may come into play.
