Your labor dispute has led to MAC/Ohio football receiving more national pub than I can remember (and I've been following it for over 40 years).
1. Northern Ill v. Toledo. As if the 63-60 game itself wasn't enough, it was a major sports talk topic all day Wednesday. Jim Rome's national radio show is exhibit A. Rome talked about being disappointed that there was no NBA, not having anything to watch, then he found the Toledo game. He went on and on about the game, the players, played highlights, couldn't say enough about it. Only bad thing was Rome saying he couldn't wait until next tues for more MAC football, wish he'd promoed the Ohio game.
2. The Ohio-Temple game. The biggest thing about this game? It was on ESPN, "The Mothership," and not relegated to the Deuce or U. Game was reasonably well presented and ESPN did a particularly good job of making the campus and Athens look nice. Icing on the cake: The game's highlight package was the lead story on Sportscenter. ESPN even had highlights dropped into the Sportscenter open.
With no NBA expected until Dec. at the earliest, the next month should be a p.r. bonanza for MAC/Ohio football. I am certain it will result in MAC teams picking up a few recruits that otherwise would not have committed.
