The students did a better job showing up than the alums.

Only about half the students who showed up really seemed to care a flying fig who won the game.

And the old people stood up maybe twice during the first half...can we just stop playing the blame game?  The winning culture here will fix the problem.

OK, before someone says otherwise...I'm obviously exaggerating about them standing twice.

Turnout was phenomenal. Early departure was the problem.

I run hot and cold on this subject. I'd love to see our base have the fervor that they do in the SEC. But I don't ever want to be a unofficial professional team either.

Seriously, what is a reasonable percentage of student population to expect to care greatly about the sports on campus?

What's the east grandstand hold? 6K? If so, that's a third of the student body turned out?

33% sounds high for student participation to me. I don't even have to turn to the "fan of other school" excuse.

At the end, it was half full. That's still 15% student participation to the glorious end. On a weeknight.

That doesn't seem unreasonable.

Maybe we're expecting too much.

I think Pete has a real point but I'll tell you what impressed me more than the gametime turnout.
The Mrs. and I were in town waaaay early to avoid the parking lot that 33 becomes around 5 pm weeknights and also because I thought there might be a crowd in the parking lots (shows how wrong you can be).

When we could no longer amuse ourselves with people watching outside we entered Peden about 7 where I thought we'd be alone.  Instead I saw 3/4 of the Ozone / field seats full of students.  (those seats comparable to Phillips.)  They were making noise, jumping around; totally into the atmosphere (which was all them).  Very impressive.

Whoever or whatever brought them there - keep it up.

The students probably got there early to get prime location for being on TV, plus I think they have been told or learned by now that for any big game you have to get there early since there is only one student gate.  As I can attest from when I was a student not so long ago it can be quite a long line at times.

I know this was brought up on another thread but I forget where....the lines on our field look absolutely awful.  I was at the game live, and haven't watched it on TV yet, so correct me please if it looks different on screen.  But I watched the whole game from the NW curved section of stands and as soon as the ball reached midfield, it was impossible to tell if the ball carrier was making positive or negative yards. You simply cannot see anything painted on the field.  I know it's not as simple as painting on the turf itself, but I'm just throwing it out there.  I'm still in my 20's so it's gonna be hell in 15 years if it's not re-painted by then.     OK however i loved the game, the win, the band, the student crowd, and the black uni's....just still had to complain about something.

I wasn't looking for it specifically, but the lines looked good on TV (or at least they didn't look so bad that I noticed)

As far as flipping the TV config, you'd have to build some form of a box on the opposite side of the stadium to do it -- gotta have somewhere to put cameras and people.  Wouldn't make a ton of sense.
