We have high hopes for our lads this year.  We expect a lot from them.

The least we could do is to all learn the songs:

"Stand Up and Cheer"

Stand up and cheer,
Cheer loud and long for old Ohio,
For today we raise
The Green and White above the rest.

Our teams are fighting
And they are bound to win the fray.
We've got the team,
We've got the steam,
For this is old Ohio's day!
Rah! Rah! Rah!

Alma Mater, Ohio"
(Chorus only)

Alma Mater, Ohio
Alma Mater, brave and fair!
Alma Mater, we hail thee,
For we own thy kindly care.

Alma Mater, Ohio
When we read thy story o'er,
We revere thee and cheer thee
As we sing thy praise once more.

The following is from the Stand Up and Cheer Memories section under Fan Center at ohiobobcats.com (which thread you will all love and many will want to post to):

It was 1982, fresh off 4 straight wins; the Miami Redskins were now coming into Athens. The game was for sole possession of first place and would put the 'Cats record at a very respectful 5-2 and, undefeated in the MAC. Miami's Brian Pillman headed one of the best defenses in the MAC and he was a consensus A.P. All-American. I was playing on the offensive line at the time and we knew we had our hands full. Coach Burke put in a game plan to double team Pillman on each & every play. By the time the 2nd quarter was done, so was Pillman. Tim Linson had an excellent game and seemed to be in Pillman's legs the entire day. Miami was never in the game and the Bobcats shut out our longtime foe 20-0 in front of what was at the time, one of the largest crowds in pre-renovated Peden stadium history (I think about 20,000 people).

When we were in double sessions each summer, Coach Burke made every new player learn each & every word of the Ohio University fight song. Some of us wondered why but we did it anyway. Following this game, President Charles Ping came into the locker room and, in his now raspy voice from cheering, congratulated us. Then he started to sing STAND UP AND CHEER! Every single person in the locker room joined in and started to sing as loud as we could. President Ping knew each word of that song and so did the whole team, thanks to Coach Burke. I don't think I've ever felt more proud to be singing the OHIO fight song in that misty room filled with those fine young men that had just accomplished what so few had thought could be done. To this day, it brings back chills to think of all those special people and that very, very special version of 'STAND UP & CHEER'.

Brian Burke did know how to beat Miami.  I believe Coach Solich is now tied with him in terms of number of victories and winning percentage against the Oxford Techies.  I believe this year Frank will become, on a percentage basis, the "winningest" Ohio coach against the redchickens.  He'll also tromp Temple once again, but that's hardly worth mentioning, as the owls are just Miami wannabes.

Agreed.  He brings absolutely nothing to the board.  I'm fine with opposing fans on the board, I actually encourage it, but only if they are constructive and respectful.  The only thing that he does is rip on our fine institution and post idiotic pictures.  I know that I have grown extremely tired of it.

Make ya a deal gobobcatsgo. If you can find a post within the last 6 months where JSF or Munny Slavin are respectful toward an opposing fan's viewepoint, I'll leave this board myself....til Halloween week of course.

MH55 has been a vapid troll since signing on to this site, and he has a track record of annoying posts on boards across the conference. But banning him seems ridiculous. He's never done anything worse that idiotic trash talking, which a lot of people on most boards do. His only offense is being offensively ignorant and willfully annoying. If you don't like that, don't feed the troll.

I say MH55 needs to go.  And as you all know......I don't say much!  While I'm at it, Bobcat Love can be positive this year, or he needs to go too.

As you all know? Who are you again?

First off, Monroe's post was horrendous. Another couple lines of canned drivel.

I have no problem with MH55. Frankly, I agree with most of what he says. Short of being able to beat us, Temple's program will outpace us in the next couple years. They've got ND at home, we've got NMSU.

Banning people is Single A ball. If you want a homogenous board where everyone just agrees with each other, well, I suggest someone gets the scout.com board rolling.

Troll?

I would conservatively estimate my presence on your flatlined basketball board put 50 more people in
the "]["emple "]["icket Line. At least.

My thoughts are of those who follow my gospel and dont even know I am commenting on this horrendous thread.

What you did in this thread is obviously trolling, there is no debate.  I don't really have a problem with that, though, all I'd say is I like you a lot better when you're talking smack about how dominant the owls are, vs. your posts in this thread where you're just calling out another poster.

In all seriousness, there's no reason Temple shouldn't become a real rival of Ohio, both teams have been and will continue to be perennial contenders MAC East race.  The hold-up right now is that the Bobcat/Owl games have been so lopsided in the past couple years.

Okay.  We get it.  You don't like the air that I breathe.  Since your first topic of importance is complaints about our A.D. and scheduling, let's call blasting me your second.  To make this a lot easier for all and quicker for you, let's call blasting me 'number two.'  See, from now on all you have to do is write this:  "I here make a number two."

I gotta start charging for this stuff.

I'm ashamed my participation will produce a thousand views and apparently not a single comment about Munny's original point.

In 1982,  "]["emple beat Cincinati, Louisville and Syracuse

Now that's more like it.

I don't remember much college football from 1982, on account of it being so many, many years ago.  All I can recall is this TV commercial:

Child: Mr. Owl, how many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?
Owl: How many licks?  I'm afraid I haven't the foggiest, my lad -- the owls suck!

For the record, Monroe, I really liked reading the quote from Brian Bertoia, Hawthorn Woods, Illinois, Class of 1985.  It was very inspirational at a point in the preseason that I'm really getting revved up for the start of the season.  It fit my mood exactly.  Thanks for posting it.

BTW, I think I'm #3 on BL's favorite target list.  I guess you're just a better man than I am, Gunga Din, err . . . Monroe Slavin.
