Did you see the pathetic "crowds" at Toledo and BG on a beautiful fall evening for games with nearly equal importance to the Ohio/Temple game??  There's no complaining on their part about students leaving at halftime.  They just don't show up.

Agreed.  MAC attendance is pathetic.

I think there's a thread somewhere talking about what a good job our students do and it's true. Ohio has twice as many students who don't leave at halftime than most MAC schools get to even show up. Sure, we'd like it if all of them stayed to the end, but there's no doubt our students rank as the best in the MAC.

Toledo fans can't complain about enough points not being scored for excitement.

Im thinking we'll see the worst crowd yet tomorrow night in Mt Pleasant.  Family & friends only.

I think that if you search the threads, you'll find a lot of posts congratulating the students for their turnout. They really responded to the blackout request. The crowd looked fantastic on TV, and ESPN even did a great job of camera work in the second half such that you rarely realized that any students had left. The remaining students crowded down lower, and most crowd shots were of the packed lower part of the stadium. The students that stayed were loud, and helped the team a great deal - the players and Solich both commented on that after the game. On the final drive, you could see the D trying to get more noise from the crowd, a sure sign that the players do hear and appreciate the crowd.

Ohio's crowd had their best showing ever since I've been a fan back in 2005 against Pitt. That crowd was better than most BCS crowds, to be honest. Then they slumped back, but ever since then, they have been in a steady climb mode, getting better and better, from what I can tell. For a week night game, the crowd against Temple would be hard to top. I heard them through the radio broadcast all the way until the end. The other thing - they also seem to be getting better about knowing when to be the loudest - when the other team has the ball, as they are trying to snap it, and particularly on 3rd down.

The best attendance years for the MAC was back in the early 2000's. The MAC was earning higher profile wins at the time and Marshall's rowdy traveling fan base ignited hatred wherever they played. A lot of programs in the conference were on a rise at the same time. Bowling Green, Northern Illinois, Miami, Toledo, Marshall, Ohio, Akron all had elevated their commitment starting in the 90's and the sense was this league was building itself into something. Marshall leaving set the conference back for a few years on the TV side until Temple got rolling.

Local forecast a little bit ago said Hi of 39, temps closer to 32 in the evening...Which I'm happy about because any precipitation will be snow.  Cold rain sucks.

Dave Hackenberg weighs in on weeknight games.

And before we start banging on Toledo's attendance...it was at least announced as being larger than the Ohio-Temple game.

True. we have attendance smack over some teams in the MAC in football, but Toledo is not one of them. Also, loved the student support the other night, but really, until we can get 1000 people to a bowl game, we don't have much smack to throw around.

Toledo consistently draws well at the MAC level for both major sports, even in down years.

I've been to only one Ohio bowl game--the Mobile game a few years ago, and I believe we had well over 1,000 represented in green and white. Now how much of that counts on our tickets sold, I have no idea. But I thought we had a pretty solid turnout.

Yeah, you have to take that for what it's worth, but I'm sure there are some bigger programs that have worse student support.
