I cannot see Paterno returning to PSU next year.  It's already been an on-going discussion that his time has come and gone.  Now with the current climate, I have to imagine that the University President will want to start anew.  Ohio opens the season at Penn State next year, so I would bet there's a good chance Ohio plays in the first Penn State game without JoePa in more than 45 years as HC and more than 60 years on the Penn State sidelines.

Whoa! Good point!

Not only that, but they will probably have to clean house too. So they may have an entire new staff. Should be pretty interesting. This may be a game that's worth attending.

I agree, Paul. But don't we have a yoga session to attend that day?

If there's any year to "catch" Penn State, it may be next year! Looking forward to this game already. At the very least, with all the probable changes, Penn State will be in the national spotlight every week next year.

Interesting point and might just be true.  Maybe they'll hire Tressell and then a Bobcat win is sort of two in one.

Ohio should cancel the game. We don't want our players showering in PSU locker rooms.

My father is a devoted PSU alum and assumes the JoePa is history after this season.  Talk around PSU has always been that JoePa wants JayPa to be his successor, but has no support of that idea from alums and major contributors to the program.  This scandal adds fuel to the idea that the entire staff will be cleaned out.  I would expect that Urban Meyer (likely bidding war with OSU) and Al Golden are the 2 main targets.

I can't wait to get there next year.  It's a fabulous place for tailgating and I can only imagine the atmosphere next year (assuming JoePa is gone) will be really interesting.  And as long as the 2-headed monster of McGloin and Bolden is starting (just awful, awful QB play), I like our chances to keep it a competitive game.

Anyway, enough about next year.  Beat CMU!!

We don't know who will be making this decision. Unless there are major relevations that sway current opinion, the president and AD will be out. A new president may bring in someone who has no ties to Paterno. How about Solich?? (semi joking)

LOL! I'm sure I can find a studio in Happy Valley. I can't enjoy a Bobcat game without doing a few Sun Salutations in the morning.

What is my mantra you ask? Simple: "Fraaaaank, Fraaaaaank,..."

I can't tell if Mike is saying that Al Golden may be coach next year, or is providing a very subtle reference involving the words "golden" and "shower". Or Both!

Doesn't anyone believe Urban when he says that he got out of coaching for health reasons and that he's not interested in a high-pressure job again?  Oh, I forgot, he's been looking for a house in Upper Arlington!

My friend from Columbus just emailed me about the game next year which I was not aware of.  I see where State Penn then travels to Virginia the next week.

I don't think Paterno coaches another game!

Just noticed that Penn State plays in Columbus in two weeks.  Can you imagine that atmosphere if Paterno or "Red" is still coaching?

As I mentioned on another thread, Grobe's name is on this "B" List of replacements.

Found this picture of our last game at State College.

I just don't see a scenario whereby Saturday is not his last game. They can't let him go on the road.

And closing out the season at Wisconsin. Not the friendliest environment.

Ohio played at Penn State in back to back years losing 10-49 in 1973 and 16-35 in 1974.  This picture would have been from the 1973 game as #22 for Penn State is John Cappelletti who won the Heisman as a Senior in 1973.

I remember seeing clips from this game in the made for TV movie "Something for Joey".

I still don't think that Paterno coaches another game.  It is interesting that the Athletic Website has not acknowledged his retirement.  Some of the wording in his annoucement recommending the trustees not spend another minute talking about him may backfire.  It simply reaffirms his arrogance which was the underlying problem.

If he goes on the road, maybe he just chills upstairs in the booth instead of standing on the sidelines and getting berated by the plebs.

He'd already been doing that this season after getting smacked by a sideline hit in practice. I agree with you, though, I think that's the only way it works for him to finish the season.

Another picture from the 1973 Game.  The second two pictures including Cleve I think are from the 1969 game that we lost 3-42.  The last picture #34 is Franco Harris during the 1970 game that we lost 3-22.

I found these pictures by clicking on different players from the years the teams played.  Note that in some of the other years in addition to the numbers on the helmets, they also had a blue strip for a few years.  See Ted Kwalic.

Thanks for posting.  These are real neat photos.  One correction: The score of the 1970 game was 32-22.  With just a few minutes to go Ohio scored to come within three points.  Ohio then failed on an onside kick and PSU went in for a final TD.  This was the only game in the series, thus far, that Ohio had a legitimate chance of winning down the stretch.  I wasn't there, but I remember listening to it on the radio from my home in Chesapeake, Ohio, a bedroom community for Huntington, W.Va..  Ohio finished 4-5 that year and PSU was 7-3.  It was that evening that the Marshall team was killed in the plane crash.  So, Ohio's season was over.   Two Marshall assistant coaches -- Mickey Jackson and Carl Koker -- were at the Ohio-Penn State game in a scouting capacity so they lived to provide some coaching continuity for the Young Herd in 1971.
