Thanks for the write up. At this point the Cats are pretty much headed to Detroit and Its time to start buckling the defense down for that matchup against NIU or Toledo. The good thing is the defense has a couple more weeks to improve in advance of the MACC. Neal is due to return soon so I think that will help the Cats in the pass rush department. Solich has experience at Ford Field another feather in the cap heading into a MACC.

Thoughts from Los Angeles.  (And I have canvassed the area thoroughly, considering the millions out here who watched tonight's game and who follow the 'Cats faithfully.)

Someone posted last week that we'd be able to run on CMU.  True.

Similarly, it has been posted here that this year would be..is..all about our D-line. We'll be as good as our D-line allows.  If Huynh were to come back, our prospects brighten much.  Somewhere in the threads this week it was stated that Huynh hasn't even started practicing yet.  Add in the post above about the extent of his injury and, well, looks like no help that way this year.  The silver lining is that we have the makings of a good D-line next season.

Our receivers block.  That first TD (the Tettleton run) was courtesy of a couple of fine, fine blocks on the edge.

You tell me.  Is Skyler Allen having a pretty good year or what?

If we get a pass rush there's no one in this league who can beat us.

Pretty sure I touched on every one of those points.  Some things need fixed for sure, and I still suspect this team doesn't stay focused in the cold.  But there were some positives as well, and the bad interception and fumble calls played a part in Ohio not being able to really pull away.

For all the reasons we discuss on this board, winning on the road, after an emotion home win, against a very good opponent who is on top of the standings is always a difficult task.
Add to this the following facts:
1) Temple beat Miami the night before which takes some pressure off us.
2) Playing on the road
3) We have not had much success against CMU in the past few years
4) We have had a tendency to play down to our competition.
5) We are still not at full strength on the defensive side of the ball

In summary this was a good game, penalties and all.

Agreed, as I recall it, we failed to get pressure on the QB on almost every passing play (excepting the play late in the game where the pass rusher practically took the ball off their QB's hand). That being said, I didn't see us trying to bring much of a pass rush for most of the night. Frequently it looked like only the down D-linemen (and sometimes not even all of them) were trying to get pressure, that the scheme was more to keep the QB contained allowing as many players as possible to drop into coverage.

Thoughts? Discuss.

The only thing that looked good in this game was 2nd half running between tackles and #47 tackling. Poor passing, leaky D. We still hung 43 and won by 15. One game. We have seen every facet of this team excel at one time this season. They put everything together for one game, and it is on.    Friggin ON.
