The best part about this story in my opinion: there are* 5,600 LIVING bishops in the catholic church + what must be tens or hundreds of thousands of deceased bishops, and not a single one of them has ever been named Sycamore. Simply remarkable that with all of those current and former/deceased bishops to choose from, they managed to draw a blank

Yes, the guy was not only a complete charlatan, but he’s a dumb one, too. You’d think if he was trying to fake a Catholic school he’d use the name of a real bishop. It also says something about the state of religious education these days that no one in authority recognized that “Bishop Sycamore” was a name as bogus as a three-dollar bill. This story stinks on so many levels it’s really hard to comprehend how no one saw the many early red flags.

They were probably trying to think of a bishop name that hadn't been involved in a sex abuse scandal, most likely. The only way to do that was to make up a name.

Bishop Barnum would've been a little too obvious.

Do you know of a parochial high school named after a Protestant, Orthodox, or Coptic bishop? And, more to the point, were any bishops of the forgoing non-Catholic Christian denominations ever named Sycamore?

An historically appropriate name would have been Bishop Victor Lustig High School, perhaps the 19th Century's most notorious con man. Known as the man who sold the Eiffel Tower twice. If he'd been in charge of this faux high school the fraud may have gone on a bit longer. He was a smart hustler. Leroy Johnson was a stupid hustler.

Send me proof of one named Sycamore and I'll laugh a little less hard at this story

First time I ever read Bishop Sycamore in print I instantly thought it was some kind of joke or spoof. The fact that they were able to arrange a game on national TV against IMG just blows my mind in so many ways. So sad on so many levels.

I don't have a list of their bishops, but the Christians of Faith Academy that was later renamed Bishop Sycamore had a paper trail to the AME Church, which cut ties to the school by 2018.

The Papists do enough self-inflicted damage; your libel is unnecessary.

Libel?

I listed three wings of Christianity that are definitively non-Papist. The Orthodox and Coptic were never Papist, in the sense of allegiance to Rome, though the Coptics have their own Pope. The Protestants haven't been Papist since their split with Rome during the Reformation.

I fail to see any point you are making here.

Edit: The African Methodist Episcopal Church split from the main Methodist Episcopal body in or around the early 19th Century over racial discrimination issues. [Are you saying the AME Church had a Bishop Sycamore?]

Anyone else view this yet? The "coach" is without a doubt a sociopath who doubles down on every lie. Kids were horribly manipulated. He signed each of them up for fraudulent PPP loans and then took the money.

He's the second most shameless liar I have ever come across in my life.
